If the ZR1 is to be second only to the Veyron, it would need to have this engine in it. A 730 hp 6.2 liter engine won't get the job done, even at the weight posted. Plus it would make the mustang and viper crowd shut the hell up.
Years ago when Jeff Lynne was producing music for McCartney, Harrison, Traveling Wilburys, and his ELO Zoom album, I thought I would have some fun. I registered the handle of ASCAP and wrote that Jeff Lynne was going to produce an album for a well known country music star. Within the next couple of weeks, this 'rumor from a well known source claims Jeff Lynne will be producing an album with a well known and popular country and western singer' was posted in several spots.
A great rumor is a rumor with just enough truth to believed.
Color me skeptical about some of the rumors in the original post. I'm not stating that he is having fun like I did many years ago, but I still have my doubts.
I live in a sea of Porsches, and I've never seen any family of 4 coming out of a 911. LOL. How could this be a marketing concern?
I know a lot of people that have specifically stated they can't own a vette because they can't carry their wife and little timmy out in it. Although they may want one, the wife will not allow it in a lot of cases.
The article strikes me as interesting. While it does seen "wishful thinking," there is something about it that rings true. In one breath, it states there will be a 2+2 configuration then follows that up by saying their will be a factory delete option for the rear seats...this is pretty specific...makes me think it holds some validity. Also, a quick google search indicates that GM has trademarked the Name "Stingray"....interesting. Was this for the transformers concept or also for the C7...like I said, this is pretty specific stuff.
Either someone is really bored or this could actually be true.
Hear the echo? ...echo? ...echo? ...echo? ...echo?
People are reading CF rumors, wish lists, drunken blubbering, and outright hoaxes, and then repeating them to others like they're facts from "insiders." Then they get re-posted on CF again in the web's version of an echo.

Yes I agree that a lot of it SOUNDS true (or sincere).
The only weird part is the one about being second only to Veyron. I mean, it's plausible as far as acceleration goes. But they would have to break the laws of physics to reach a similar top speed with 750 hp.
As writers of fiction (and also politicians) have long known: put a tidbit or two of truth in something and many will believe the whole story. Michael Crichton was a master of this in creating believable fiction.
I imagine there may be a tidbit or two of truth in this speculation (i.e. the model will still be named Corvette) but the only 2 + 2 seats that will fit in there would be just about large enough for a kitten Don't forget the tremendous amount of design (and resulting safety testing/certification) needed for a second row of seats not to mention the complete change in product image.
How about the next rumor is the Corvette will also have a class III towing package since they are also missing the market for those who want to tow their boat down the Tail of the Dragon on the way to Fontana lake.

Agreed. How this could be accomplished is beyond me...
Putting in a rear seat is not that easy. Not that it would be easy anyway - look behind the seats of a C6 and tell me where the seats would go without making the car significantly longer - and heavier. But it goes beyond that. We live in a day and age where there are many safety concerns. You would need seat belts and the accompanying anchors and strength added to the rear of the car for to meet acceptable crash testing to offer some degree of protection for folks sitting back there.
If you build a version with a rear seat, the added weight has to be factored into CAFE ratings as well. Could they do it? Sure. But why would they want to go to all that trouble while at the same time risking the marketing damage that it would do to the brand as a true sports car? The Porsche has offered that configuration since the beginning of time for the 911 so it just comes with the territory. The Corvette has always been a two seater. I just don't see it.

neither do I. However, you never know. Didn't Ed Whitacre say the new corvette would be "completely different."
This is certaily an interesting read. I have a hard time believing it all, but I can see how a 911 type back seat could be crammed in there. It really isn't much of a seat, but it's enough for some people. The overall change to the back slope, addition of the small windows and longer wheelbase would make sense if this were true.

The C2 had a 98" wheelbase, and there was room enough for a set of rear seats in the coupe(for kids). GM didn't offer the rear seat option, but the aftermarket did.

And the 911 did this due to tax or insurance reasons IIRC. That's why the fact that full size adults can fit back there for a trip of any length, is not a problem for them.
The US did have those laws, so they didn't include them.
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
