I did see that one, but for the life of me can't remember which one it was. They're all sort of running together in my brain. I think he was at the show in this one. But I believe he said they were still looking for a way to get some more weight out of it. I guess we'll know by September.
I am not as optimistic as many of you folks. If it gets under 4.0 flat, I would be happy. I see people suggesting this car will exceed the Z06 in performance. I think that if it maintains the same weight as the GS, exceeds the performace of it, it is a victory.
I keep seeing car manufactures doing the double talk. They refer to weight reductions of certain items of the car, but do not mention the fact they added weight in other areas. I know some believe the C7 may be under 3000 or 3100 lbs. I reallly hope they are right but just hope it comes in under the C6 base or GS it replaces.
Regarding braking, it appears the same double talk may occur. Yes, the C7 might brake 60-0 well the first time but I think the real issue is how does it brake repeatedly & my bet is it will not brake as well as a Z06 or ZR1.
I am not trying to slam the C7, just being realistic about the expectations of a car that is a fraction of the cost of a Z06/ZR1 & matching the performance of the more expensive models.Lets remember the hp/tq is only slightly greater then the LS3 in replaces. Add a weight that maybe about the same, it spells improvement but not an extreme change. Yes, I am aware of the tq improvement below 4K rpm.

There is no expectation for this model to exceed the current Z06 performance. The statement was that the C7 will have similar torque from 1000 to 4000 rpm. That was the only comparison to the Z06. The statement from GM is that this car will outperfom the current Grandsport model, and that I believe was referring to track times at the proving grounds. The brakes are Brembo and are similar to the Z06 setup as I understand. No one is saying it is better than the current
Z06.
As far as the weight issue, one has to also look at the redistribution of the weight. The center of gravity is lower (less roll) and the weight is an even 50/50 (more balance). While neither of these effect launch, aside from possibly less tailwag, they will certainly enhance auto-x and roadcourse driving.
But it's all hypothetical at the moment, as we still do not know the actual HP/Tq or weight as of now. The damn thing may come in at 480/480 and weigh 3100 lbs. (but really, most potential buyers are still more concerned about how to keep the dust off the rear vents so it looks pretty in garage...BTW, I wonder which color looks best under flourescent light?)

The C7 may very well come in at 450/450...however remember that BMW and many others UNDERRATE their engines. The BMW turbo 6 shows 300, yet the dyno reading equates to 340. The BMW turbo 8 shows 400, and the dyno equates to 430.
So the dyno will likely show that the C7 could have been rated at 470.
The much improved tires are equivalent to the larger C6 GS tires, so a current C6 coupe on those tires would run close to 4.0. So you can expect this C7 to run at 3.7 in the car mags.

I think many of have said that the estimated HP is just that and we really need to wait for the hard data to be released. I think a 3.7 may be a stretch. The Z06 is a 3.6 and from what I have heard stated by Tadge, the C7 weights a little more than the C6, which means it weights even more then the Z06.

I guess what I'm trying to say, is that using the straight line acceleration number as THE measure of performance in any, and especially this, Corvette, is selling it very short.
I think it should be clarified as to whether or not the C7 will beat the Z06 or the Z06, with the Z07 package.
On a track, yes, I think the C7 will be a better car than the Z06 without the Z07 package. In performance testing, I don't think the C7 will match the Z06 in everything. 3.7 0 - 60 and a 11.7 1/4 mile might be out of reach for the C7, but I wouldn't be surprised to see some great drivers reach that. Yet, I'm confident the C7 will probably beat the Z06 in braking and skidpad numbers. The C7's chassis is far stiffer and better sorted.
Overall, I think the C7 will put it together better on the track where the sum of its parts show their true colors.
Regarding the Z07, it should easily beat the C7 on a track. The tires are too sticky and the aero package is too much to overcome. I don't think GM ever intended to benchmark the Z07. It's worth noting that the Z07 is dangerously close to the ZR1 on the track, so it wouldn't be reasonable to expect the C7 to be that good.

I'm waiting for a Z51 convertible, but don't expect to see one released for another 4 or 5 years. I just hope GM doesn't discontinue the car due to poor sales or CAFE problems before then.
naw buddy i'll just jump on the Gran Turismo 5 bandwagon and post this vid of a C7 getting yanked by a C6 Z06 in a drag race with the Z06 spinning its life away!...of course its just Gran Turismo
A quote from Tadge in the March Car&Driver:..."The guys who've run mules at VIR are getting lap times competitive with today's Z06." Page 42
Read that also. Road and Track just said faster lap times then a Grand Sport. I expect road feel and balance to be better then both with the stiffer chassis. Impressive for a base car with the Z51 package.

Everything you hear and read is nothing more than speculation. It is not fact. Until a production car is released and somebody does a real test on it you can dream of all your expectations. Under 4 seconds can mean 3.99 seconds. I know for a fact they are hustling right now to make some of their claims plausible.

Tadge Juechter is Chief Engineer of the C7 program. I'll take his word over a member whose credibility is unknown anyday.

So what. Is he your personal friend ? :
His goal is to release a profitable product. He cannot be held accountable to you for anything he says or does not say. Get real.

No he's not my personal friend, and your not either, and you won't be accountable. Do you really think he is going to say:..."The guys who've run mules at VIR are getting lap times competitive with today's Z06" in a nationally published magazine if it is not true? what does he have to gain from that? He knows the cars will be tested by various media, and it would hurt his credibility if not true. Talk about getting real.
