Where did you get all that? I clicked on the link and saw none of that. For instance, the LT1 has a 6500 RPM redline, not 7200, and it's max horsepower is reached at 5900 RPM, but it does only drop a few horsepower from 5900 to it's 6500 RPM redline.
GM's own dyno graph that they showed the world when they released the info on the Lt1 last year, shows 450 HP which is 20 above the LS3, not 45 HP.
You have to download the SAE paper in pdf form ( at about 24 $ ) look at figure 55 in paper. It show that the LT1 has a peak power of about 26 KW ( 35 HP ) more than the LS3,..etc Paper will be presented next week at SAE World Congress.
Not surprising at all. Don't know why so many are stuck on 450hp given the specs GM has provided so far.
*Higher compression
*Direct injection
*Smarter ECM
*Higher flowing IM
*Better intake/exhaust mainfolds
*Larger exhaust(at least on Z51 models)
*VVT for broader powerband
*Redesigned heads(which I seriously doubt flow less than the LS3 head)
It adds up.
470hp is a pretty good number for a base Vette IMO.
People on here were exaggerating acting like AFM was a death sentence.
I'm still stuck on the words approximately, preliminary and estimated in that graph above. Hopefully Texel can screen shot. The magazine blogs will probably have a field day when this gets loose.
By screenshot I meant from the newer SAE paper Texel is reading.
Oh, thought you were asking me since you quoted me. I would also like to see back up to the OP's post. Such as where the 7200 RPM came from when GM did not design the LT1 in the C7's application to go above 6500 RPM or make peak power above 5900 RPM.
As you can see from the GM graph I posted, the LT's torque drops off faster than the LS3's as the LT1 is designed as a low RPM torquer, not a high RPM horsepower monster.
Engines are like tires/suspension. While the Corvette can be designed to pull 1g on a skidpad(re: Z51), GM designed the base Corvette to pull around .92. I used C6 figures as no official GM skidpad numbers have been released for the C7. But you get my point.

Paper is DRM'ed had to give them my address and CC info for purchase...

Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
Slideshow: A Jaguar designer's personal project imagines what a modern front-engined Corvette might look like if Chevrolet revisited the golden age of the Stingray.
