Actually, I agree with you, in principle. However, I think "stomp" is a bit of an exaggeration. And for the record, we weren't on a track.

You can compare the cars, but first you have to define what aspect is being compared. What is the yardstick?

We will all argue until we define some things here. Thats all I'm saying.

I am sure if you had both you wouldn't be saying ridiculous stuff as such

Hmm...you may be right. So the difference, in this instance, was perhaps the driver? Heh.

If you work in the consumer market, you will understand the cost requirements of a low end to a mid grade product aren't very far away in price, but a mid-end to high end product are much further away in price.

Then, the difference between a high-end product and ultra high end is a massive jump in price for just a little bit better, but all the fine details are accounted for and are precise, which drives the price of a marginally better performing product through the roof.

Once you get to ultra high end products, it takes a lot more money just to get a little bit more.

In the case of a C7 vs a 458, every aspect of the 458 is head and shoulders above the C7, it's not even close. The quality of the interior is far and above that of the C7, the leathers used are ultra premium grade, which is extremely expensive. They use leather from a specific type of cow to ensure the highest quality.

The engine in a 458 is a masterpiece. The price of that mill is near the price of an entire C7.

All these high end features on a car like that add up very quickly.

The 458 isn't really that overpriced. They are a limited quantity vehicle with the finest materials and engineering available, period. That costs big $$ to make a profit.

Ferrari could easily water down their product and make a $70,000 car that performs similar to a C7, but that's not what a Ferrari is all about.

Thank you. You nailed it. When pushing the envelope, the last 5% makes 95% of the cost.

Perhaps some of this crowd will actually take the time to read what you've written.

No cost? I would take the 458. Duh.

I'd trust you about as far as I can throw you.

You are talking about a car(458) with roughly 100 more horsepower, is 100 pounds lighter, and has a much faster shifting Dual clutch transmission. Car and Driver got a 11.0@131 compared to 12.2@117 for the C7. In the Vette's defense it's only about $200k cheaper.

Guys the Ferrari 458 is not all about 0 to 60 & quarter mile times. Its about the entire package. I wonder if people on the Ferrari FORUM are comparing the 458 to the Z51 C7

I hope the red highlighted quote is also true about the Corvette.

Maybe the Ferrari FORUM folks are comparing their rigs to the Veyron?

I agree with musclecar6. They can keep their exotics, there's nothing quite like a Corvette. It's the car that makes owning a world class sports car a reality. The sound, feel, heritage, and look of the Corvette have always made it my favorite car. Not to mention, they are probably the easiest sports car to live with on a daily basis. Reliable, good storage, fuel efficient, and super comfortable.

And also, in MotorTrend's comparison the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta was barely faster than the Stingray Z51. I think the Stingray would do very exceptionally against a 458. And my friend's stock C6 Z06 handled a 458 in a drag race from 20-140mph. In any case, Corvette Racing dominates Ferrari in the ALMS and Ferrari actually leased suspension technology from GM.

Mine.

The 458 is a great car but it is not perfect. The AC, Radio, and Nav suck for example. The interior wears if you only look at it. It attracts too much attention from people you don't want attention from. The options are just stupid crazy ($3500 for electric seats, 3300 for Nav plus 2000 for the Sat antenna, 6000 for the Carbon fibre dash, even 900 for a stupid Ipod cable. Those little yellow shields on the side --- $1800)

On the other hand, the sound and fury it delivers at 9 grand is mind blowing. The shifting is lighting fast. And the looks are somewhere between Sophia Loren in the 60's and Kate Upton.

The C7 looks like a great daily driver. The 458 just isn't.

The cars are apples and oranges. One thing you can do with the C7 is drive it 3000 miles across the country and not have it devalue by $10,000. Ferrari owners are their own worst enemy. The are so picky on things that shouldn't matter that they consider a car having "high mileage" anything near 10,000 miles. Stupid.

That was Randy's first time driving a front-engined Ferrari on that track. He's driven plenty of Corvettes before; and one could argue the C7 is the easiest of them to drive. Seriously doubt your friend's car was stock, or that the 458 was really trying. Good thing he stopped at 140 because it would likely be the 458 all the way after that.

It sure is. And that's what makes the subjective comparisons all the more interesting (and actually probably more relevant, with regard to why people buy these cars).
Perhaps some of those Ferrari Forum folks do, but some of them also have Veyrons.

The corvette in no way compares to the 458 and the only thing it wins on is value. It's embarrassing to even see this thread on here. For the people saying a z06 takes it in a drag race, that's not what the 458 was built for. Oh and is the z06 pushing 308lb of downforce at 124mph and 793lb at 186mph?

I'm sorry but a Rolex is the Corvette and a Timex is a Corolla in your scenario. The Ferrari would actually be a Patek Phillipe or a Blancpain or even a Piaget.

Avg. Price for Rolex is only $13k -Corvette
avg. Price for the others....$50k Ferrari 458

The Rolex/Timex comparisons are always interesting. I remember trying on a $38,000 jewel encrusted Rolex....one year warranty. Nearby Fossil brand watch for a cool $100....ten year warranty. Rear deck on the 458 convertible is beautiful, I love the whole operation of the top going down.

I think the 458 is gorgeous. I actually like the C7 rear better than the 458 rear though. Ferrari should have kept the dual round tail lights. The interior…. I'm just not feeling the love.

Isn't a Z06 faster than a 458 on track?
