[QUOTE=KenHorse;1588479948]Yes, I drilled the holes from the inside, one on each side of the latch mechanism
As the 2nd pic shows, I milled out the bracket so the rear view camera clears it. Sure, you can see the mount and cables but also I can see to the rear just fine. The 2nd antenna is a dualband VHF/UHF one for use with this:

Do I need a special anten na for my convertible? Anything shorter and less noticeable?
GMRS frequency of course.

I'd be VERY wary of this Chinese knockoffs as they're known to be......crap
Antenna-wise, for UHF, you could easily use a 1/4 wave one (only about 6" long) IF you can place it over a ground plane, which is no easy task in a Vette.....
An alternate is to use a 1/2 wave antenna which doesn't require a ground plane to "work against". Fortunately a 1/2 wave UHF antenna is around 12" long and are available from several manufacturers such as Sinclabs. Ebay has many models to choose from
Interesting thread. I recently installed a cb in my Ram 3500 that we use to tow the travel trailer and car hauler. I like it for long road trips and the truckers are entertaining to a point. I need has all controls on the hand held mic unit making for a compact install. I don't think I'm going to do that in the Vette.

Tsk, tsk. That is so 21st century. You wanna go RETRO today man! 10-4 good buddy!! Keep the shiny side up and the greasy side down.
Two CBers still? Mercy sakes alive it looks like we got us a convoy!!
Any smokies out there? Any Kojaks with a Kodak?
Keep the bugs off the glass and the bears of your a--. Keep the sunny side up and the greasy side down, and we'll catch you comin' around. We're clear, we gone, we do thank ya...
I've run 2 antenna cables back in my C7 and the answer to your question is no.
What I did was to remove the rear inside trim (I have a Z51 and I'm referring to the plastic trim that encloses the sub woofer and amp along the rear edge of the hatch (trunk) area.)
One that's removed, you can drill a hole just large enough to pass the RG-58/U coax through (1/4"). But first, you need a snake (a wire coat hanger will suffice) and you need to push it through the hole, DOWN towards the license plate. You need the snake because the shock-absorbing "bumpers" are quite a pain to get cables past.
Once you have the snake through one of the holes near the top of the license plate mounting, attach a string as a messenger cable and pull it back up through the hole into the truck. Finally, attach your coax and pull the messenger back down to the license plate area.
Here's how mine turned out:
That's a pretty clean install. Your license plate tells me you are a ham, advanced class or extra class. I haven't reached the point of mounting antenna on my car. When I want to go radio active I just bring one of my H/Ts and drop it into the cup holder. It seems to work well enough. But your cable installation is about as non-invasive as you can get. Nice!

de KB2BK.
This is my 3rd Vette where I had a dual-bander installed and never had a problem doing so.
And yes...Extra class and my call is from Hawaii (been an Extra since 1986!)

The radio I'm using allows the control head to be remoted from the main body of the radio. What you see mounted on the center console is the control head while the rest of the radio is behind the passenger seat. In your case, I don't think those radios have a detachable control head so you're going to have to be more creative
