System is acting like the air bag deployed, and I believe it tried. During the initial hit the inside of the car filed with smoke or a powder of some sort. The passenger side Seatbelt cinched so tight that it pulled the metal clip into the side of the plastic on the seat and cut into it. There's a gap difference between the top and both A-pillars. Behind the drivers door the gap is off compared to the passenger side. The hood is cracked and the front fender gaps are off also. The passenger side Seatbelt pulled so hard that it strained the panels behind it and popped them out. I was going 76 mph when the collision occurred.
That really sucks bud, hope you get it all worked out soon.
The worst part about these kinds of things is that you always wonder right afterwards, "Why me?" I got in an accident a few years back in my daily driver, and it irritated me to no end because I could have just have easily NOT gotten into it. I was at work, and I thought to myself "hmm what should I get for lunch? Cafeteria? Nah screw it I guess I'll just drive over to Panera."
Ended up being the most expensive Chicken Frontega half sandwich I'd ever eaten in my life. Some 18 year old girl who just got her license ended up blowing a stop sign and ramming straight into me. The whole time after all I could think was....should have eaten at the goddamn cafeteria!
On the bright side, insurance got my car looking as good as new. And I'm sure it will be the same for you. Best of luck!
The passenger side Seatbelt is so tight that it has a twang to it when you touch it. The drivers side won't retract or come out at all either. The Display is telling me too have the air bag serviced.
I haven't ever been in an accident with seat belt on but from the looks of the seat belt assy I wonder if that kind of damage to the seat belt guides and retainers would maybe cause you additional injury, I'll continue to wear mine though, just thinking out loud............
I truly hate deer, just for this reason. A good friend of ours called tonight to say that a deer hit his newer car. They are so damn dumb. I was on my motorcycle once and I saw a deer running in a field off to my right, running away from me. When he saw me, he turned and ran in front of me, but I could see what he was up to (it was daytime) and I had no trouble stopping, but still how stupid.
Do wildebeests run into the jaws of the lions? I guess cars, etc., have not been around long enough for deer to evolve into animals that avoid cars.
Sorry for my digression. Here you were minding your own business, and an idiot deer does $5 to 10K of damage to your car. I feel your pain. I live in the super boonies where watching out for deer is a necessity, and even then they will just run right into you.

I think they retract to a certain resistance or just a given length of belt regardless how much belt us pulled out.
I learned from a recent accident that once the tensioners do their thing the belt must be replaced. Only good for one accident
Were you alone when the accident happened? You didn't mention having a passenger, and I thought the passenger-side airbags were disabled when the seat was empty.
Damn deer! That's alway on my mind in the area where I live. I encountered a group of 4 while cruising last night. I slowed in time. It seems like they are everywhere.
