Question. What would prompt the service dept to to even look for something like that. Are they aware of issues with new motors and have been told to look for poor QC before install? It makes you wonder if other motors had this and didn't get noticed before being intalled.

not hard to see and any tech with more than two days experience will verify that what he's about to install isn't already broken.

1. June 7th , engine started making a lower end knock: http://youtu.be/FoUBjXrhtzQ
2. June 8 through June 11, warranty tear down, 4 blown bottom bearings

3. June 12th complete long block engine, torque tube and clutch assembly approved under warranty
4. June 16th new motor arrives at dealership containing metal dust in cylinder heads

5. June 17th GM sends 2nd replacement motor VIA FedEx P1.
6. June 18th Motor arrives at Dealership and installation process begins

7. June 19th Car is ready for pick-up $25K+ repair bill covered by GM

I only lost one weekend and now basics have a new car, thank you GM and my local dealer for the best service in the world.

RIP!

I blew one in my 2007 C6 A6 Z51. Got on the gas pedal hard to bring her up to speed limit (55) as soon as I let off she went to ****. GM claimed that cats came apart and when I let off the gas the broken cat pieces got sucked back into the piston chamber where it scratched the piston walls and chewed the valves/head.

Replaced under warranty.

Glad GM helped you out.
