Can't say I'm a fan of the Jake stuff. It's kinda cheesy and played out.

Lol @ this thread. Who cares?

I love mine and looking at my car in old pics without it bores me.

So subtle. Yet in your face I Love it..

If this car ever receives compliments (and it does wherever it goes) it's the same two thinga. The twilight blue interior and the oem jake stringer.. These cars are beautiful even in a sea of other amazing cars the C7s always get plenty of looks.

I like Jake, i just don't like paying the corvette tax for him. so when my after-market z06 wheels for z51's came with gloss black plain hubcaps, rather than pay $100+ for ANY corvette style set of hub caps, I bought 4PCS 56.5mm Punisher Skull Aluminum Auto Wheel Center Hub Cap Emblems Stickers off ebay for $4.99 that are exactly for the hub cap diameter, red skull on black background, stick like glue. Then I got the punisher metal valve caps plus key chain for $2.08, again red skull against black end piece on a black metal valve cap to replace those fugly gray plastic valve caps. On a Torch Red and Black top vert, both are low key and perfect, and less any corvette $100 tax per item. But decals on a car are the last ditch of the cars styling dept to try to make the car look different as it begins to look dated, and $950 for vinyl stripes, or $500 for a quarter stripe? whoo boy!

All the "value your car" applications I've filled out recently and not one program asked if I had a stripe package on my trade-in before they gave me a trade-in value. So the valve caps and hub caps as well as original rims/tires went back to original equip on the trade-in, no big deal; and no big amount of money spent on the temporary personalization. Used buyers want all original, not individual inspiration.

I've been a Corvette Racing fan for quite some time; I've seen them race at WG, Mid-Ohio and Lime Rock. Plus, I was fortunate enough at the NCM 20th Anniversary "festivities" to have Tommy Milner drive me around the track, at speed, in my car, for a few laps (I'm nobody special; they had a fund-raiser where $50 bought the drive. Great deal, I'd say.)

So, I feel good about showing my support for the boys, just not too flashy. When I got my first C6, the prior owner had already shown his allegiance; and after consultation with my wife (whose taste in cars and mods I respect) I left them on:

So, when I picked up my next C6, we figured Jake had to come along for the ride:

And again with the C7. The window treatment is much different and called for a different approach -- but we both knew Corvette Racing had to be acknowledged:

Funny thing is, I was itching to get one of those stinger Jakes as well. I was, however, STRONGLY advised by my Vette "style editor" to not "junk it up." No critique of those who have done so (I still think the somewhat "ghosty" ones like 16/C7Z's look VERY cool), but I did see her point...

I cannot decide if it is better to revive a dead thread or to start a new one on the same topic.

See that now! The last one, "I brought back to life" no doubt by looking at a "related thread" when scrolling too far.

This Thread one someone else "reincarnated" so it popped in my email! Sorry "TheMonk," you probably have started to read some Vette history by now!

I didn’t know it was frowned upon to bring up old threads. I think it’s worse having to say again in a new thread what’s been discussed before.

Came from a car show this weekend and EVERY (and I mean EVERY) C7 (Stingray, GS, Z06) had the regalia of obligatory airbrushed coil covers, brake MC cover with a "chrome" cap, and painted/filled in Corvette logo on the underside of the hood. Most also had the Jake logo. Have you ever seen a Ferrari or classic Maserati with similar nonsense? I have been to ALOT of shows and Corvette is the only car that does these "upgrades" to this degree. It is a shame because Corvette has lost the younger person who they should be chasing. I think it is an embarressment. It reminds me of

This is what I think of when I see a Jake on a Corvette

There are pros and cons to both approaches. The biggest problem with reviving old threads is that most that respond don't realize it is an old thread (and don't bother to read through the entire thread) to understand the context. The biggest con to starting a new thread is that the information about a topic gets spread across more than 1 thread. Generally, if multiple threads are created withiin a few days, the duplicate threads are closed with a link to the original thread. In other situations, this is not done and I think a new thread is more appropriate.

No big deal and no definitive right or wrong approach.

The reason it doesn’t happen to Ferrari or Lamborghini owners is that it’s a much smaller audience. The “ricer” phenomenon is much more common down stream.

Comparing vettes to supercars isn’t accurate.

It looks ridiculous. What are we, a bunch of pirates? Yar Maties!!

However, it also looks youthful. It does NOT scream, "Hey mildred, where mah geritol?"

So, overall, it does more good than evil for the brand. Honestly, all these grandpas buying does NOT make the brand look at all cool. Makes the car seem like a perfect adult diaper spokesman.

Jake says "No adult diapers please".
