I work at a dealership (Finance) and GM doesn't exactly tell the service department hey the Android Auto updates are ready now, it just kind of is ready when it is. Most of the time they find out when someone asks for it.
What stops them from, like you, joining a forum such as this and becoming aware of the state of the industry they chose to get into?!? I just don't understand - if your career is selling cars, why wouldn't you want to be on top of what's going on in your field?!? You, from finance no less, know about this because you actively sought out the info. Why shouldn't all service departments be on their toes and ahead of the game? Sounds like a bunch of amateurs to me!
I stopped by my dealer today and he looked up my car by vin number and it showed that the Android Auto update was not available for my 2016 C7 yet
This makes absolutely no sense! Why should an update be for a specific vehicle or set of vin numbers?!? This is not boutique software, individually crafted for each car. 2016's are supposed to get this update. Don't tell me that some 2016's can and some can't! That'd be asinine!
Got my 16Z updated yesterday. But my archaic Motorola Droid Razor Max is not running Lollypop (5.0 or higher), therefore I can't run the Android Auto app on it.
Hopefully the phone will get updated to Lollypop someday.
BTW, after install of AA you will have to pair your phone again. Car won't let you pair while moving, so do it before you leave dealership.
FYI. Motorola does not plan to update older phones (i.e. Droid Razor, Droid Maxx, etc.) You will have to update to the new phones running the new OS. Sorry, fact.
With Auto Android does it matter which Android Version the Phone is.
Info mentions Lollipop and Marshmallow but my Samsung Galaxy S4 has the 5.0.1 update and it's the Knox version.
I may have missed it, but is it compatible ?
My dealer, Boardwalk Chevrolet in Redwood City, says we need some sort of certificate to be sent to us from GM. What BS! Anybody know who I can call in GM to straighten this out?
OK, more news. Went to the chat line off of chevy.com. Transferred to the Infotainment section. I nice guy named Charles told me that it's true and that they just started sending out the certificates. He also said that if your email address is known they'll email you. Otherwise he said to go to chevy.com and use the chat, tell them to forward you to Infotainment and ask there.
I just finished chatting with Charles on Chevy.com. He confirmed that emails or letters are going out to owners of vehicles capable of being upgraded. He said they are going out now.
