I'm glad to see this poll
I'm negotiating for a car right now and I've been pondering whether I was just setting myself up for a problem
negotiations continue
^^^ Some have had issues, and some have not. Tough to say, but will say I love my A8! I beat on it and abuse it every time out and it feels great. Without a doubt there are some trouble kids out there with some of the TC's and transmissions, but if mine broke today, I would get it fixed and keep on driving. It is that good in my opinion. Good luck on your negotiations!

I would love to see the mileage associated with the problems. I polled as no problems but I am only at 7400 miles. People are writing me that 10 k is the normal onset if one is going to have an issue. I have seen owners with 20 k plus report no problems too......
Anything built on an assembly line is going to have an occasional bad unit, it's the nature of the beast. The question is whether the issue is being blown out of proportion here. I suspect it is. I'll purchase with my finger crossed.
now comes the part where somebody tells me I'm DOOMED!
^^^ Doomed? No, but it is a crap shoot. I think the odds are stacked in your favor though. A significant number of cars exhibit the symptom, but it's definitely a small percentage of overall A8 equipped cars.

2015 C7 built Aug 2014 * aprox 16000 miles TC replacement
* 21000 miles Transmission replacement
* 27000 miles more driveline issues
2015 C7 built the Fall of 2014 ( Friends car) * 320000 miles TC replacement. No symptoms until 32000 miles then heavy shudder and hard shift developed.
The first 100 polled are in. 16% failure reported with 12% being 2015, 3% 2016, and 1% 2017.
The 12% reported failures were torque converter failures and 4% transmission failures.
Lets see which way the percentages slide with more participation.
When I had my TC replaced the service manager said he understood that between 15 to 20% of C7 A8's would need TC replacement.
If in each of the model years , 2015,2016 ,2017 there were aprox 30,000 A8' in the production numbers then there are now aprox 90,000 A8's out there. If 15 to 20% are bad then there are maybe 13000 to 18000 potential bad units in service.
I included 2017 in the count because on this and other forums there are reports of 2017's with driveline symptoms. Maybe this date of Nov 2015 for no more bad TC's is not quite accurate.
As I have posted previously I had a Feb 2016 replacement TC that went south and then a May 2016 Transmission that 6000 miles later is showing driveline issues again. Shortly I am anticipating a third transmission tear out depending on what our service manager decides.

This is the part that I don't understand. After my TC replacement and subsequent relapse, the service manager said there was nothing else they could do since the TC replacement didn't fix the problem. I got tired of fighting with Don Ringler Chevrolet and GM and sold the car.

I was just going to note the same thing. I see a nice pattern here. The first year of the A8 (2015) appears to be where most of the problems were. It would seem that adjustments were made going forward and problems have dropped substantially. This doesn't lessen the pain of 16 & 17 owners that have had problems, but I think if you removed the 2015 issues from the list the numbers would be small and this would be a side note.
^^^ I think you are right, but we have a small sample still. If we never heard of the 2015 problems, would the problems we read about be as heated of discussion? Perhaps and I will agree that it must really suck to get a brand new or used 60k and up car for it to fail, especially an invasive of repair as a transmission or torque converter. Hopefully we get maximum participation for what we have on the forum. Who knows, the data might increase in the favor of failure across the 16's as well. Will be kind of neat to find out.

Thanks for starting this poll. My 2016 had the TC and stator support replaced at 8500 miles. Will be very interesting to see the data when more cars accumulate mileage approaching 10K miles. For those that have garage queens that could take a while so I hope this poll remains active for many months/years. Thanks again.
