I have been driving for fifty-five years and have owned and driven many different vehicles. I have owned four Chrysler products and been assigned Chrysler products by government agencies and corporations since they are often the low bid. Every Chrysler I have owned or been assigned has left me standing by the road waiting for a tow truck. My three different Corvettes and four different Hondas have never failed me once.
Individual anecdotes are single data-points, but here's my data-point counterpart to yours.
I've owned 8 Chrysler products since 2004. I still own an '04 Dodge Dakota w/ 150K miles, and a '15 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. Not one of them has either left me stranded or had any major mechanical issue.
This cross-shopping phenomenon I'm sure has marketing studies to back it up, but I agree that not everyone who buys a 'Vette will look at a 911, a GTR, or an F-type.
We have a family car and my car; not everyone can streamline their "stable" that way, some must sacrifice for more practicality, some have the luxury of an extra pony or two.
I saw the 0-60 times comparing an automatic GS and a Charger Hellcat, and the Charger wins by maybe 0.2 seconds. I guess that's the difference between going fast and the sensation of going fast; some cars get up to speed with little fuss (and some would argue, little excitement) and others are more dramatic.
It's really too bad GM didn't build that Escala...
Great write up and I agree people cross shop these more than you think. I had a 2011 SRT 392 Challenger with an E-force on it and loved it. I'm so disappointed with the build quality of my Z51 I'm again considering going back to a Challenger Hellcat. Im waiting on what the new Trackhawk Hellcat version of the Grand Cherokee is going for first. My 11 year old one ton dodge diesel has less squeaks and rattles than my 2016 Corvette.
That's very surprising my Corvette was a 2014 and never made a peep rattle or squeak.
Drivers side door has been in 4 times for a very loud annoying squeak. All they do is take it apart and "grease" it. Glass roof squeaks over every bump. Has the new hardware installed too. I rarely drive it anymore because all I can hear over every road defect is that annoying squeak.
Enjoyed your review. It reinforces why I have a Z06. It's good you like your purchase, buyers remorse is a bitch and I have a neighbor going through it right now with his new
Ford F-150 Raptor. He's grown to HATE it.
Congrats on the newest family member and enjoy the Hellcat!
Great motor...But for $70k+, I just can't get past the unbelievably cheap looking dash in the Charger... If I had to have a back seat I'd have to go ZL1....

Backseat in the ZL1 is basically useless. Trying to even get into the backseat of the 6th gen ZL1 is ridiculous. GM just did not engineer the backseat to be used in this car.

Agreed, not a useful or family oriented back seat for sure. Not to mention poor visibility for everyday use.
It's nice to see a "real world" comparison. I have several muscle/sports cars including a recent 'Vette, and my limited experience suggests there are "Corvette Guys" and the rest of us "car guys". No one wants to hear about your "other" car at the shows. I appreciate your feedback and absolutely love the HellCat as well. Great choice!

I did highly consider the Zl1. If I wasn't planning on using the car with a car seat for my son than I probably would have bought it. In the end for car seat use and practicality the hellcat suited my needs best. Also buying the car used help cushion the blow of the original sticker cost of 72k and the dash lol.

Check for a thread on this. If I remember correctly sometimes this is door skin rubbing against the metal bar that provides side impact protection, cure is aerosol foam between the two to stop movement. Someone else may have the link.

Forget the eacala I live the ceil from Entourage!!!!
Congrats on your purchase of the Hellcat, sorry to see you leave the Corvette family but with a family you had to make the choice that works.
Good Luck and safe driving.
