Thanks for your good comments and posting this, looks like an excellent find!
So I understand splicing into the purple white with the red wire on the module.
But on the black wire of the module, do I need to splice into a ground wire, or can I simply attach either black wire coming out of the module to a ground?
And, how does this unit flash?
Does it flash 3 times then stay on? Or does it flash some other pattern?
Thanks
.
i put mine inline with third brake light. Don’t know if it will work the other way. I started to try it but decided to go with what I know works. It flashes three or four times real fast, then three or four times slow then stays on solid till you take your foot off brake and do it again. It’s not hard to take bumper cover off. I you tubed it. I didn’t take it all the way off. Just pulled back far enough to get to wire. I’m 70 yrs old and only took a couple of hours and I took my time. I put connectors on each end so I could unplug and put back stock if needed.
This is an old thread but still very helpful for those wanting to install the module now. I installed the WebElectric universal module (BLP-1) when I removed the rear bumper cover for installing a rear spoiler. A very simple and easy job if you take your time with it and closely follow the videos that are available. If I had not been installing the spoiler I could have installed the module without having to completely remove the bumper as someone in an earlier post has mentioned. The advantage of the WebElectric module is that once it has been activated and goes through its sequence, there is a 15 second delay before it resets itself and starts blinking again. I don't know if the ones from Amazon or eBay have this feature.
My module has 3 wires that need to be connected. (The extra 2 white wires coming from the module are for optional feature programming (flash rate....)
Red (+12V in) goes to the cut end of the Purple/white wire that runs forward to the +12V source (the BCM).
Yellow (Flasher output) goes to the cut end of the Purple/white wire that runs out the large round black grommet, rearwards, which goes to the third brakelight.
Black (ground) connects to ground, at the battery negative post (I put the wire under the small nut/existing wire on the top of the post.)
Thank You for the helpful info on how to wire the 3rd brake light flasher module in the back of the car splicing into the third brake light wire at the harness.
I found it easier to maneuver and strip wires and solder in the back than at the BCM under the passenger side dash. Although taking out the rear subwoofer assembly was a pain
Cars definitely take notice coming up behind you when you brake
I agree with you, I did mine at the BCM which required extreme contortions in minimal space and little available length of wires to do splicing, But I got it done!
