Yes, this topic has been covered in other threads but I just got my update and the "RULES" have changed as to the process the update.
I quote the first line of the instructions:
DO NOT drive your vehicle during the update installation. To insure success, it is highly recommended that your vehicle remain running and in PARK during the entire installation.
Most of us have shoved in the thumbdrive and then went driving while the update took place. Whelp, the "DO NOT" in caps seems to say different.
The rest of the rules:
Park your vehicle in a safe, well ventilated place outside. Otherwise, you risk carbon monoxide poisoning.
DO NOT attempt to install this update in "Accessory Power Mode"
If you have any other USB devices connected, remove it before beginning these instructions.
Special Notes:
The map update process takes approximately 50 minutes. The progress bar may move slowly or remain on a percentage for several minutes. This is normal.
Updating the Map:
Insert the USB device into any available USB slot in the infotainment system or center console
The navigation system will recognize the USB as a map update and ask whether you would like to update. Select "Update". The display will inform you that the navigation and weather will be available during the update ( I thought you shouldn't drive?)
Select "Continue". The system will begin updating.
When loading is complete, you will see a screen that indicates "Update Complete". Select "Dismiss". The system will restart. When the restart is complete, you may remove the USB and use the navigation and weather functions.
So, the rules are you can't drive the car and it sits there idling for 50 minutes while the map update happens. That kinda sucks.
Yup, $3.95 shipping in USA. I ordered mine a few days ago after reading the post about the sale. The onboard nav is mostly superfluous these days if you have a phone but there are times when it is convenient to use. Worth it for $99.
I like it for not only all the new streets around here (tons of construction on the highways and new neighborhoods being built) but also for the updated gas stations which come in handy on roadtrips and car cruises (which I happen to have coming up in two weeks).

Thanks Elmer. I ordered mine Monday this week, and it still hasn't shipped. How long did yours take? Shipping to Florida was $3.95 for me. To those seeing 29.95 for shipping, make sure you are not on the Canadian ordering site.
I was planning on driving it around while it updated but the instructions said not to. After I started the update the message on the screen said I could continue to drive while the system was updating.
I was at work so I just left it running. At about an hour the progress bar was at 100% and the car shut off. I don't know if it shut off because the update was done or if it was the car had been running without the FOB inside.
After I started it back up, I got a message that a file was missing. Looking back at the instructions, I noticed it said to ignore the message. Everything seems to be working fine.
Haven't ordered the Corvette update yet but the update for my Terrain says to leave the car in Park with the engine running for the first 10 or 15 minutes. The update is a two step process where the first step is called Update Radio Software which takes 10 to 15 minutes. Once that is done the screen shows Start Software Update and that is when you can drive the car if you want. Once the message appears you push Continue on the screen. The instructions just say not to start or turn off the engine during that part of the update which will take 25-35 minutes. Don't know if the Corvette Instructions are different but the update manual seems to be fairly standardized.
This helps a bit. I was having trouble understanding why a map update which should be no more than a file copy operation from the thumb drive should be such a PITA. It sounds like the car is updating firmware and perhaps retrieving some or all of the map data via the onboard 4G. If you were to be driving around at a critical point and lost 4G cell connection it might fail... or just perhaps take extra time. The thumb drive is probably just used to mediate the transaction for the particular VIN.
