Android auto should be free if you're under the bumper to bumper. Called 4 dealers today.. one said that it changed and it'll be $160.. two said as long as you're under the bumper to bumper it's free. One hasn't gotten back to me yet to confirm lol

My dealer said it was free if you got it within the first year as a courtesy to add the new feature. They said it was not covered by warranty... and of course I procrastinated since I currently have an iphone.

Got to be something corrupt in my system firmware preventing the file write operation. And since the first attempt a couple weeks ago erased the OEM maps there is no map or NAV capability. I believe my system probably needs the equivalent of a factory reset that is easily done on most any device these days, but probably only doable by the dealer for these GM systems.

Not to put off anyone else from doing this, the process is extremely simple and seems to work reliably for most. Just not always....
Sorry to hear that. Wishing you well in your efforts to get it fixed. Hope they just replace the whole unit for you and don't mess up anything else.

I hope it won't come to that. They probably can do a factory reset and then reload the firmware (if necessary) then software.

Most service techs have a hard time navigating tools like the GM Tech 2 and MDI GDS2 software. They aren't software engineers. Unless GM has a detailed, step-by-step, service bulletin of how to reset it, you may end up with the new one. I hope not. Maybe if you started a new thread and asked if there is anyone who knows the procedure to do a factory reset or firmware/software using MDI GDS2, someone might chime in. I know on the C6 forum, user Dano523 knows a lot about the Tech 2 menus and he seems to have been sniffing around a lot about what can be done with GDS2 software. Maybe try to PM him. Just can't believe your luck on this.

Can someone check on the currency of the new nav update in regards to recent constructed streets? When I purchased my 2016 the nav database did not have my three year old neighborhood in the database. I've moved to another three year old neighborhood, and don't want to buy this year's update if my neighborhood is not in the database. The address to check is 133 Listo Street, Rancho Mission Viejo, CA 92694. The city may be listed as Ladera Ranch instead, as some nav databases have that instead of the real city.

Yes, I did write to the GM navigation update team, and they responded that they don't have the capability to check if an address is in their database. Sounds lame, but that's what they wrote!

Thanks!

Yes. It worked with "Ladera Ranch". Not the other.

Did the update today. Took about 40 minutes. Seemed kinda fast. The screen immediately said "You may drive your vehicle".

Just an update on my Nav update failure problem. I took the car to the dealer today for airbag recall (yes I am very late doing this, hate going to the dealer), MSRC upgrade, Android Auto addition, and to address the Nav update failure. They were able to do the Nav update I believe after the Android Auto update which appears to have reset the head unit. They did it for no charge. But I paid plenty for that MSRC upgrade and AA update!

I don't have nav, but I am curious: is this update VIN-specific, or can it be used again in a different VIN?

Installed the update in my 2016 Z51 a few days ago. Left the car running in the driveway and took 45-50 minutes. No issues.
