For what it is worth, your 2016 has the same processor and memory as the 2017. My 2017 update completed (including the reboot) in approximately 30 minutes. I got a slowdown around 30%, another one around 50%, and the last one around 80%. Once it got to 100%, it still took another minute or two before it gave me the "Update Complete" message and the "Dismiss" option.
This seems to be an epic fail. After 30 minutes idling stuck at 0% I shut the car down, removed the USB then restarted the car. Nav and weather functions are gone. In Nav mode get a message to reinsert the USB to continue update. Did that, and 30 minutes later still stuck on 0%. I give up. I will call them tomorrow and hope I don't need a visit to the dealer. So somehow I can reflash PC motherboards in my sleep but can't do a simple map file update? Thanks a lot GM.
One thought - it might be worth trying again except this time put the thumb drive in a different USB port, check the port behind the screen and make sure nothing is in it and make sure you don't have a SD card in the PDR slot in the glove box. On some versions of the instructions, it says try a different USB port in you encounter an error.
Yes, tried other ports. I don't get any errors, just zero progress.

Same here, wish I could offer help. Mine got stuck on 4% for a while and I went and cleaned the wheels and when I looked at it again was at 99% and finished up the way it was supposed to. Sounds like the company selling these updates has a QC problem.
Yes, I read the instruction about the progress seeming to stick at certain % here and there. Seen that with other firmware updates in the PC and device world so no biggie. But when it doesn't come off zero there is a problem. Like aborted Windows updates and such maybe it is doing a lot of disc activity to get back to the start point. The map USB drive was warm so it was powered up and doing something. I stuck it in my laptop and everything looks OK. None of the files show updated dates as if they were overwritten or something. Maybe I'll go take another drive and see what happens. I'd hate to waste another hour on this when I had set aside 45 minutes for the job, but if it saves me a trip to the dealer...

Here is mine. Let me know if you would like me to look for anything special. Lots of files on that USB.
Mine exactly the same... although I guess they have the VIN in one of the reg files or somesuch. I looked for that to make sure they had it right but didn't find it. Like you said, lots of files.

They must have encrypted the VIN. I tried to find it, too. Thought it might be in one of the xml files, but not found anywhere.
Well, went to for an hour and 15 minute drive, never budged from 0%. Then stopped for groceries and gas and both restarts it finds the thumb drive and asks to do the install again... say yes and the old 0% routine again. LOL.
The VIN might be in this file in the Program directory. It was written to the drive the day it shipped.

SDX_MY16.DAT
Yep, the file is in xml format and the vin number is in there.
Not sure why it didn't show up when I searched earlier.
Next time it asks you to restart, try answering NO if that choice is available.
Then see what happens.
Once it finishes, shut down the car, and then try again from the very beginning.
The files on the drive are write protected, so I can't see how they could be corrupted.
But maybe something the install process copied down got corrupted.
Call the gm navdisc people tomorrow and see what they say.
QC is really bad.
I believe "HERE" is the consortium that bought out NAVTEQ.
Good luck.

Did you drive the car on that first or second attempt where it couldn't get above 0% ?
We know the screen says you can drive the car, but the printed instructions say no. Sounds like a 50-50 chance on which one is right.
Everyone else's updates seem to be working ok, so we need to chase down what's different about yours.
Did you verify that the VIN on the update paperwork is correct for your car?
I left the SD card in my PDR during the update and it worked ok, but something worth checking on yours.
Anything else strange ever happen with your Nav or USB ports?
Can you try playing some music through your USB port to verify (something) ?
First try was parked and idling for like 35 minutes with 0% progress before I gave up. Other tries driving for as much as an hour with same result. I am just not comfortable having the car sit at idle for that long, especially when the update isn't processing. No SD card in the PDR. Haven't played music but the USB ports seem to work fine, recognizing the thumb drive and beginning the update. It did fine at wiping the original Nav file, just won't install the new one. I'll be calling them later today.

I plan to call them... How did your initial try with the wrong part # fail? Did it wipe the original map? Did it show that is was "updating" but not making progress.

Sure enough, my update drive arrived on Friday. I placed it in the drive Saturday morning after removing all USB related ports sans the Sandisk data card for PDR. During installation, I cleaned up the interior, trunk, and all windshields. Listened to one song on the XM Jazz Watercolor station and it was done. System restarted, I tested that Woodward address (shout outs to the Dream Cruise) and that was it. I honestly don't know how long the process took, but I would say around 35 minutes. It's unfortunate that people are having issues, but it was a fairly simple process on my end.
Also, you will not see a gradual percentage count on updates during the installation process - for example: 35%, 36%, 37%; it seems that the installation does a routine check, and upon that call, it will provide you with a percentage update. So seeing a large percentage jump (I saw mine jump from 15% to 35% in a few seconds, but was halfway done almost 10 minutes later) is normal. Plus as Null Pointer pointed out, it is a massive series of files on top of a lot of things going on behind the scenes.
Oh, and screw that troll screen "You may now drive your car" or whatever it said. I stuck with the printed instructions and bought some time. A Corvette can never be clean enough.
