Guys,
I think its come down to this. I can make a new handle chosen from these two. It will be available in only one color: Carbon Flash Metallic. I'll try hard to get it to match the hood vents on the car.
We just need to pick the shape:
Help me decide which shape to make.
Thanks.
Dave
#1
I prefer the rectangular style...Very clean simple design, has an OEM look, and doesn't distract from the unique cup lines....Design #1 appears to be more ergonomic in design and is easier to place fingers under it to pull outwards...
My issue with #2 is that is a bit oversized, the space between handle and cup will be shallower, and the leading edge repeats the same angle as the cup which takes away from the unique cup line....

I like door handle # 2 the best.
It is not really that much more noticeable than # 1 and it fits the space so much better. It looks like an option that GM might have considered for an OEM part to me.

I think 1 is too similar to the original while 2 is different enough that you can increase your sales to people who want something different from the original..
I don't see the new design #1 as being at all similar to the current design.....
I'm just not a fan at the way in which the current door paddle is angled within the cup area ....Here is how design #1 would compare to current design...
I don't think design #3 will allow for enough room to get fingers behind the triangular plate?
I'm with you Dave as it's one of the many design elements where GM hit the ball out of the park in designing the C7 which is arguably the most well designed Corvette of all time.

I am 1000% agreement with that. I love my C7 too. So much so, that I drive it every single day. But, to me, it is still a car. It needs to be practical as well as beautiful. The door dog is one of those little things that makes my C7 a bit more practical.
Let me ask you a question. Let's say the C7 had a factory handle instead of a push button. Would that have been a negative aspect? Would you have even noticed?
Obviously, the door dog is not factory. It is an added accessory. And it is a trade-off of function vs appearance. But to the public it makes no difference. Even here in So Cal, the land of Porsche, BMW, and Mercedes, my car gets stares and thumbs up. The door dogs have no effect on that.
If you are going to car shows, and want a completely stock appearance, just remove the door dogs. It is literally a 5 minute operation! Its no big deal...
I just think arguments against the door dog based solely on appearance are way over blown.

Tom, that is my concern as well. The pictures don't show it very well, but space is very tight.
And also, when the door is open there is a sort of pointed object sticking out with #3. (This is just a prototype)

All good points, truly. If you're sold by the practicality argument, it's a small difference. But Corvette could have installed door dogs just as easily. Why didn't they? I'm guessing they felt their design was cleaner, "cooler" looking, and adding to the sleekness of the design. Everyone has door handles, but Corvette made them disappear. By adding door dogs, you're putting door handles back on. It's a solution looking for a problem. But for the record, the angled one looks better!

Thanks for posting Dave...Just as I thought....
Then design #1 is the clear winner for me...Eager to see a proto of design #1 and hear your observations...
And when can we expect to have new design available..ha ha!

Dave, I could't agree more with mschuyler's below comments.

Yes, it is ridiculously overblown and only comes from those who haven't seen or tried them. The same is true of those saying it's only a small difference in practicality . . . they've never tried them, so have zero basis for comparison. It's actually a rather significant difference.
Close-up pictures grossly exaggerate how noticeable they are. Truth is, they're not noticeable at all unless you're staring up close. In my experience, it is a fact that not one single person with great familiarity with the C7 has ever noticed they were on either of my two C7s until they reached in for the touch pad. The reaction after that has been universally, "that's a great idea." Since most folks have with little or no C7 familiarity, they have no clue it's not OEM, and they don't have any trouble opening the door either.
I also agree with you that had they come std on the C7, I doubt anyone would have ever objected to the design, saying "I wish I had an invisible touchpad instead."

That is just asking to get caught on something like a jacket pocket.
Great that you can prototype so quickly... I assume you have a 3D printer to fab stuff up. Nice to see a manufacture interacting with the community and collecting feedback. Plus someone who actually uses the product themselves. I often think many R&D people spend too much time in the lab and need to get back into the real world for product QA.
