The debate of whether Door Dogs are necessary is quite silly. It's a product already on the market. The creator is looking for input on designs that will persuade those already interested in the product for it's practicality, but are discouraged by its current aesthetics.

If you don't think you need Door Dogs, there's no reason to disuade others. Just because Chevy didn't intend for there to be physical articulating door handles doesn't mean they don't belong there. That's the beauty of owning our own cars. We get to customize them the way we want. If not, there wouldn't be an "after-market" market. There wouldn't be different options for intakes, exhausts, tint, etc. But there are. And if we see something that may suit our likes, then it is our perogative to do so. Or not.

Are these gloss or satin?

They're the basic Satin Black.
Pictures are a little deceiving showing a slight sheen from the lights in the garage.
The top picture shows the Satin better

Dave, just by looking at the two designs, it appears #1 would be more
ergonomic then the kind of a reverse angle for the other option so I vote for #1.

I'm really warming up to #1 too. I might be persuaded to swap this new design with my current original.

LOL!
I struggled to come up with a catchy name...something to stick in memory, etc. (But I'm no marketing expert. I'm just a retired test engineer.)
The best I could do was recall my Navy days when we had to 'dog' down the hatches. So, I made a list of about twenty different name ideas and "Door Dog" stuck out as the most catchy. Kinda dopey I guess...

That's my story and I'm sticking with it...

Cheers,
Dave

Okay guys (and gals), here's the plan.
I think I'll go with the rectangular shape shown as #1 in the second set of images. But before I commit to spending $$$ on tooling, I will post pics of the final design here. PLEASE keep checking this thread and confirm your satisfaction with it, okay?

Also, I'll need to have 3d prototypes printed to confirm the design...

After that, I will also get a quote for doing the 'angled' design. If (and when) I can afford it, I will add it as well.

Thanks everyone. I do truly appreciate your participation...

Cheers,
Dave

I recently gave a ride to a friend of my dad's. What are the chances of this? I told him to just put his fingers in the slot and squeeze, and he showed me his hand with all four fingers amputated!

They're like a paddle shifter for your door...I'm ordering mine today! Being ex-Navy myself ( NAS Imperial Beach, mid 70s) the Door Dog name made perfect sense...

Yikes, that's a door dinger waiting to happen for other cars. I take back my opinion about #2 and think #1 is nice and subtle and in carbon flash complements every body color.

Installed mine yesterday... quick review: well engineered, nice pieces and super easy to put on the car with the included tool. They are subtle, only a C7 owner would notice them, anyone else would assume it’s a factory item as fit and finish is top notch. Even the wife approves. While they are great for opening the door (as expected) a nice bonus is it gives you an obvious way to close the door as well, Vehicle should have come from the factory like this.

Also installed the seat belt clips to keep them from twisting constantly.

I agree. I like #2. Carries the angle of the indent and blends better. But what about making them in WGG?
