ok guys im thinking about buying a range unit for my car ,it keeps the motor from switching it from V-8 to V-4 I think you just plug it in ,and do you leave it plugged in all the time , just wondering how you all like it ,thanks have a good weekend! Bill
the best thing about it is you don't know it is there except the car never goes into v4 you do have to take it off before you bring your car in easy todo also when you go to get your annual inspection take it off a few weeks before as it blocks the car from reporting teh oem air pollution data
Don't use one now because my car is an M7 but when I had my 16 A8 Stingray, bought a Range Device to use in it after reading posts on the forum. I do not want my car to run in 4 cylinder mode and figure over the live of the car, it could possibly prevent having problems with the lifters or the torque converter. I also had the triple flush done at the dealership just for peace of mind, did not cost anything, it is done under power train warranty. I personally think that a Range Device is the best $189 investment you can make for a C7 with A8 transmission. Just plug it in and crank the engine, in about 30 seconds it runs through it's sequence and you are good to go, no more 4 cylinder operation. Just remember to unplug it if you go to a dealership and have your car checked out or serviced. Range Device does not change anything on the vehicle except for deactivating AFM, but have heard of forum members having problems with dealership's concerning warranty issues when they forgot to unplug it. Just unplug it and plug it back in when you get home.
Not true, get the new unit from Range Technologies, has LED lights and newest updates, virtually no battery drain. I think that was a problem with the older versions. I left it in mine car all the time and it would sit for 2 or 3 weeks without being driven, never had a problem with battery drain.

The newer versions have fixed the battery drain problem. It is safest to order it from Range Technology directly to ensure it is the correct and latest version. They are said to have excellent customer care, although I have never needed to use it. I bought my Range device from them a few years back and have had it plugged in ever since.
The only problem it has ever caused for me is once in a while my old (and old fashioned) brain makes my left foot reach for the imaginary park brake pedal and I knock the range device loose from the port. It hasn't damaged it, though.
I'm glad I purchased Range Devise for my 17 GS. I do take it out when I know vehicle will be going in for service . I try to get 200 miles car between pulling devise and service appointment. Last winter and this winter I pulled devise out during winter storage and used it in my 18 GMC Sierra as they both have the A8 tranny. Neither vehicle has shudder symptoms but did have Triple Flush done to both vehicles as a preventive measure. In spring I will be ordering second so I can have Range in both vehicles and don't have to switch out !

I have the Range AFM Eliminator on my car and it works great. Well worth the cost to not have to worry about cylinder deactivation.
well you all sold me ,I will be buying one before spring when I take my car out of storage ,would you leave it in the car all winter long when it is in storage?
Don't think it would really matter much, but I keep a battery tender on my car now during the winter when it is not being driven. Without a battery tender, I would assume any battery would go down over the winter with or without a Range Device.
I have one I will sell (sold my A8 for a M7) purchased 8/13/19 verified by Range this unit doesn't drain battery. works perfectly
$110 shipping included. PM me if interested

I have a friend looking for a range device, what color light does it have?
OP, I know you already purchased the Range but I wanted to add that I bought one a week after I purchased my 19 GS in October of 2018. It works perfectly and I have only unplugged it twice before taking the car in for service. I keep my car in the garage on a maintainer if I am not driving it for more than a few days. Just had the triple flush done last week for peace of mind. I will continue to leave the Range plugged in to prevent V4 mode.
