Default Removing fish

Any of you guys removed the fish? Was wondering if it could mess up the clear coat. Fishing like to remove, right?

Ok, I'll bite.

Are you talking about the stingray emblem on the side of the car? If so, it removes easily with some heat and some fishing line (someone stop me) or dental floss without damaging the clear coat.

Curious, why remove the ray? It is a neat emblem.

My Z06 of course does not come with the ray, but I enjoy seeing them on other cars. It is distinctive.

Easy to remove without damaging the paint/clearcoat as mentioned above. Your choice to do it or not, but I too like the look of the emblem on the car.

Fishing line. Yes, fishing line eased under, then rip gently with up and down sliding action while pulling it through. Gently!

I'm into modifying a new Mercedes-Benz van's unwanted exterior accessories, and rustproofing the areas, and fishing line is what you need. Been You Tubing Owl Vans in California, that's where I learned it.

Personally, I like the Fish.......

Take some heavier fishing line and work it behind the emblem in a sawing motion....the line will cut through the adhesive without damaging the paint

Little heat and fishing line, and then any product that removes residue. Sometimes you can just heat up the residue and roll it off with your fingers.

I used heat and a plastic pry tool. Goo gones works well to get rid of the adhesive.

Slow and easy heat from a heat gun or hair dryer, dental floss, remove fish, prep sol or alcohol and "very soft cloth " or alcohol pads to remove goo, then wax . Slow and easy !! SIMPLE and EASY !!

Make sure you get your fishing license in advance, and keep it in your glove box. You don’t want to get pulled over by marine patrol. The fishing line to use is Spectra Pro Braided in a 15# test, color-matched to your paint for best results. Once you get started and hook up, go easy. Be patient and let it come to you.

Also, you should decide in a advance whether you’ll catch-and-release or keep. Some people actually mount them.

Tight lines!

I removed mine - just didn't like them - I used dental floss to cut through the foam adhesive, starting at the tail. The residue was removed with citrus goo-be-gone. Each side took about 15 minutes. Zero sign that they were ever there. I kept them so when I sell the car, they next owner can restore the look to factory if they want to.

Don't be afraid to DIY - this is a cakewalk.

Do only the base cars have the stingray and is this why people remove them?

My experience is most people who debadge their car have the base model, be it a BMW or whatever.
