I take the strategy of not lying to myself and simply do not install a tow hook until it is needed.

How easily is it installed? I'm talking about a useful hook and not the rice kind? What do I have to do to install it for the race and remove it after the race?

Not allowed to leave the vehicle at most events unless it's on fire. So you have to install the hook before you need to drag the vehicle.

A friend got stuck in shallow-but-slippery snow in his GS, used the tow hook to get it out with no problem.
The one time I got stuck in snow (C5), we couldn't get to the frame slots to install anything there. The stock hook in back would have worked nicely.
I don't drive around town with it installed, but keep it in the car if needed. Just use some judgement on how hard you are willing to pull.

You don't mind the salt where you drive in the winter? Many people do. For me, I don't drive the C7 in the winter because it isn't fun for me when you can't stomp on the pedal and have to be extra careful.

As far as pulling it out goes, I am going to stand back and let the tow truck do what they do best. I'm not a professional and I don't have insurance to cover any stupidity induced accidents.

As mentioned before if you are visiting the racetrack you have two options.
A) Uninstall and re-install the hook every single time.
B) Leave a tow hook in and never touch it again.

There is a very simple answer to this. It's to make people think you track your car often.

Some tracks require you to have the hook installed before you start.

You are not allowed to install it after you've had an off.
1. You cannot leave the vehicle, then start adding hooks.
2. The organizations require you to have the hook installed and ready, so they can drag you back onto the track. This prevents wasting everyone's time under yellow while someone figures out how to drag you.

If spending time on track makes me a ricer, then sure beats getting fat on potatoes.

You might be the exception to the rule then? Go look around and tell me that are that many cars on the track on Sundays.

Track slots and race slots are always sold out. Full capacity + waiting lists.

What's that got to do with calling people ricers?

You’ve completely missed the point.
