Hi guys,
It's been a while since my last post
I have a question concerning the wire linked from the battery to the car. One is cut.
What is it used for? Nevertheless, the car's running great.
Thanks for your help.
Thanks for all your answers.
Absolutely no electrical issue but the battery does not stay in charge. After 3 days without using the car, no battery when I tried to start it.
In your picture you can see the ring terminal connector is still under the nut on the battery connector where that wire used to be connected. The wire should be reconnected (soldered) back to that ring connector.
It would be better to add some wire to the lead so there is less stress on it. That wire broke before I took delivery of my car from the dealer. I drove it 167 miles home and kept getting a charge error displayed on the DIC. The next day I took it to my local dealer where the mechanic found the broken wire. He added several inches of wire and the wire has never been a problem since then.
If you solder the wire into the terminal it may not last long. Soldering a braided wire can stiffen a wire and make it easier to break when flexed. The proper way to fix it is to crimp a new terminal onto the wire. Adding more wire provides the slack required to prevent the wire from breaking the next time the battery is removed/changed.
When mine broke I un-crimped the lug and re-crimped it onto the wire.
After crimping I also flowed soldered onto the lug and wire, just a little, and then added stiff glue impregnated heat shrink tubing over the completed repair.
It ain't going to ever break again at this connection.
