Finalist 2020 C7 of the Year -- Unmodified
I went straight from a C6 Z51 M6 I'd modded over 17 years, to an early '23Z, and it didn't go well...Missed the stick, the exhaust sounded like $hit, too damned expensive to trust to GM mechanics, the front splitter wanted to scrape on everything, storage areas were impractical, rearward visibility was non-existent, and I didn't trust the long term reliability of the DCT and LT6. I was so miserable a month in that I started searching for a manual C7Z, and eventually found a near perfect '18 with 6k miles. Sold the '23 for a decent profit after the 6 months passed and couldn't be happier now. To me the mid-engine car is a Corvette in name only.

That would be me. ("didn't like it very much" )
We had a 2009 that I just loved for 110k miles, but decided to try a C7 despite my misgivings.
For the first six months, I would have traded even for a good 2013. For the next six months, give me a good 2013 and a couple of thou for the deal.
It was two years before I got over being mad at all the "WTF were they thinking?" issues on the C7- features that were just right on the C6 but a PITA on the C7.
Now after seven years, I've learned to live with the goofiness and fully enjoy the good parts of the C7. No plans to downgrade, might buy a 2019 Z06 some day.

I don't think Corvettes are anything special regardless of the owner’s thoughts but carrying is something you either do or don't regardless of the car. IMO, it is "do" since you can't avoid the bad people unless you move to the moon, for now.

The DCT is truly a third way. It is certainly not a traditional manual, but it neither feels nor operates like a traditional slushbox (including newer/better ones like the C7 automatic) either.
I was totally out on the C8 based on the first coupe I saw in person. Liked my C7 M7 coupe much better. But, when I saw an HTC in person the looks really grew on me -- plus from a practical standpoint it had the benefits of a coupe (my prior Vettes were all coupes) as well as a vert.
So that got me started. Mrs. Rapid drives a MINI Cooper S with a DCT. I really like that transmission as it is crisp in any mode -- fun to play with the paddles but just so nice to ignore all that in traffic. Honestly, it FEELS like a clutched manual, but no need to hit a pedal to release and engage the clutch. Got rid of the "slushiness" that was always my biggest objection to automatics. I can say honestly that the C8 DCT is even better than the MINI's.
Bottom line -- if you think you might be ready for a DCT, try one for a while. I can't help but miss the total driver engagement of a good manual (and the C7 is VERY good IMO) now and then. There is one guy in our club who got rid of his C8 and went back to a C7 for that reason! But, the other guys in our club, including those who had moved from a manual, are not looking back.
Let me repeat -- the DCT is truly a "third way." If the failure stories were not so common (one of our club members did go through this, though it was pretty well resolved for him by GM -- no problems for the rest of us) it would be damned near perfect for most (but I concede not all) buyers...

I'd counter this way as this debate has ravaged many a thread...

I love corvettes but why spend 90k on a car you don't like the way it looks?
