When is Ranger driving C7?
He didnt mention anything about the torque management system. But then again even my z06 the torque management is tuned out.. Hopefully Ill get to take one to track soon... it took me 10 passes to get mine down to launching at good rpms..
I know that Powershifter and Ranger butted heads on Z06Vette over times and results, but I always found Ranger to be helpful. I have nothing but respect for Ranger. When I beat his times he was cordial and congratulated me on it. He was also very detail oriented which made him very good at documenting his results. I think Ranger worked a lot making lots of passes, and getting his timing down. Whether you drag race, shoot, or anything that takes repeated motion, skill and working on "muscle memory" is what makes for a good performance. So, not only was Ranger a good driver, he practiced to ensure he was "very good".
I'd like to think that given the opportunity I could make a decent pass in a C7. But I don't plan on getting one. So, who knows...
For now, I'll just stick with my slow stock C5 Z06 which still might give a few C7 drivers a run at the strip.
It is interesting how good the auto cars are. It really is taking the "driver mod" out of the equation. I think this winter we might see some good M6 times, but the auto is showing its pretty hard to beat right now.

this guy can drive!
I am going to be running my buddies C7 M7 once we get some good air down here. I am hoping to crack 12s on stock tires. I have done the reading and understand the a6 is quicker in the 1/4. My goal is 11.90.

You could insert any name, any of probably a good dozen including some of the ones posting on this thread---the OP just picked Ranger because he's pretty well known on CF. If you don't believe he is, you haven't heard of "the Ranger method for changing clutch fluid," or, "the Ranger method for shifting"----both still quoted today even tho they are at least 7 years old.
Hell, for that matter go ask Don "The Snake" to stop on by and drive a C7 M7~!
I say, get over the fact that the man was analytical, wrote things down, knew his machinery, picked "good" tracks, good days, etc. The best of anything, on any given day, can beat the average in the same machinery, at the same place----maybe not record setting, but win. Period. And those who are the best sometimes swap back and forth between who wins on any given run---that's why there's always a bunch toward the top, and one on top.
Stop knocking a guy who probably helped many more folks than he ever actually raced. It's beneath you to do so.

Thank you. All I did was ask what the result would be if Ranger drove the C7. That was it. I own a C4 ZR so it's no skin off my nose. However, I really did appreciate learning about changing clutch fluid and have used it for several years w good results. Anyone else want to take up the gauntlet, feel free. But I don't get where all this venom came from for a guy who just showed how technique and practice made a significant improvement in performance. Ranger took a very methodical, scientific approach to achieving higher performance levels.
All I can say is " thank you Ranger". I appreciate your contribution as I do the contribution of other "pioneers". This thread reminds me of the joke about pioneers.
Question: " How do you recognize who the pioneer is?
Answer: " He's the one with the arrows in his back."
Back to the subject. I'll give a few facts on John. (Ranger)
-John is an incredible driver who has helped many of us in many ways.
-His analytical approach to driving coupled with his skill has allowed him to eek out the potential of various manual cars.
-Although John chases weather, he has put up stellar numbers in conditions that are not optimal. (Positive DA)
-John's driving is like a machine and he could provide excellent feedback on the C7. It is true that there are others who can wring out the utmost from some of these platforms but John's attention to detail and record keeping is rivaled by few if any at all.
-John came up to Atco on 12/2/11 to run at a rental. We went back to my house where he and my family enjoyed some great food, great wine and most important, great conversation.
-We raced again the following day at Atco. A friend that only wished to help out others. (John took some photos that I'm still waiting for.
)-John and I raced at an MIR rental on 12/11/11. This was John's day. He put down that record 10.71 pass. Unbelievable.

-John usually leaves "goes off the grid" in early winter to protect ALL of us from others who wish to do us harm.
He usually returns later in the year. -I have not heard from John in 2+ years. All I can do is pray that he returns safely.
