Thrust Bearing Failure - A8 Torque Converter Replacement
I was "called out" by a forum member in another thread that is now locked so I can't respond to it there.
In short, I commented that failure to install the torque tube correctly could crater the engine. While I *might* have engaged in a bit of hyperbole with that characterization, the reality is that it could cause a thrust bearing failure necessitating a crankshaft replacement (at a minimum)
Said forum member was not aware of this issue despite apparently tracking the A8 torque converter issue quite closely. So for his benefit, I've culled the follow threads.

bigsapper, you are exactly right. I've seen a few instances here where the torque tube alignment was off and it quickly destroyed the existing and/or new engine. That's what scares me the most about having my car disassembled for repair...
