It will probably be introduced with the manual, but that's not to say that an auto won't be unveiled once the initial demand dies down.
Would concerns about overheating be reduced if the transmission locks out the converter (thus eliminating slippage) once past 1st gear, such as the way it's done in the IS-F and Jaguar F-Type? I know the F-Types were hammered pretty hard on tracks when Jaguar was giving demos to potential customers and journalists. Haven't heard of overheating issues, though it's possible.
I agree. I'll actually be a bit surprised if it's not offered as an option.
If they lock the TC, heat becomes much less of a concern.
No, that is not what I meant at all. What I meant was that 8 speeds is NOT necessary when you have that powerful of an engine. Less gears, less weight and complexity. That is not an excuse, those are valid reasons to not have unnecessary gears.
I agree with you. The 8 speed mated to the inline 4 turbo in the newer Bmw' is a more appropriate use of an 8 speed. A big, torque monster like the LT1 (or 4) doesn't really need all those extra gears.
Having daily drove my 07 Z06 for 50k miles in Los Angeles traffic for three years you can put a gun to my head but I won't drive another stick. Even after I bought a range rover as a daily driver and the Z as my weekend car, I'm so happy my 14 Stingray Z51 has an auto. If the Z only comes in manual forget about it! Plus I still have PTSD over the valves and warranty.
I would never own a Corvette without the automatic. I am on my fourth, all automatics. I drove the seven speed c7 and was very happy when I climbed into my c7 auto and didn't have to shift. If the z06 doesn't have the auto. I wont be buying.

Maybe someone should make a poll on this subject.. As stated previously don't think would buy a manual again in any car but maybe if liked the hill assist feature enough might if the car was only offered in manual form.
Also there are a few cars in my dream stable that never came in auto and were made before hill assist was even thought of. Ford GT is one of them. Older viper is another one. Course if moved back to place with no hills and light traffic might consider manual more.
did the exotic racing school in Las Vegas and not a single car had a manual and they had every expensive exotics there. They said manuals are dinosaurs and will completely disappear in the very near future. Just a little info 95 % of Z06 owners I know have never and will never track their car. I personally rather have a manual not because its better just that I enjoy shifting that's why I love motorcycles.
I wont own one unless it's an automatic. Rush hour traffic is a nightmare and I just want a nice car to cruise in. I did an auto conversion in my 07 Z06 and loved it!! RPM is the best!
automatics are for lazy ****tards. funny how most people that want an auto never even owned a Z06 in their life.
The people who've never owned a Z06 is the exact customer base GM wants to attract to the C7Z06 w/auto...something about being good for business.
It's hard for you to look past the utter disgust you have for people who prefer automatics and really read the posts in the threads about automatics so let me clue you in on the general consensus here...nobody cares what you think. And I can assure you GM will gladly exchange your one lost sale for 10,000 new sales.
FYI...my daughter had a '11 GS w/6M and now has an '02 Z06. I have a '93 ZR-1 and my daily driver is a manual. Clearly we have no issues with manual transmissions but if an automatic Z06 is faster than the manual, then I'll kiss the manual goodbye...I prefer going faster!

What a totally clueless and uneducated post, particularly since it (an auto trans) wasn't offered on a Z06 or ZR1 when I bought my 2011 model.
Also, it's funny how some "look down" on those that want an auto. Laughable, really. How does what someone else wants impact you?
BTW, I have a bad left knee from a football injury that probably occurred before you were born. My knee wouldn't take "force" of depressing the clutch until recently...

I've owned 2 Z06s and I have NO PROBLEM AT ALL with the option for an automatic. Hell, I might even buy one. But you know what? GM decides on what a Z06 is. It can be auto or manual. Supercharged or NA. But not Dave...Dave doesn't get to decide. Sorry Dave, but you have absolutely ZERO input on what constitutes a Z06. Let that sink in, Dave. You have NO INPUT AT ALL on what Chevy does with the Z06. Zero. Zilch. Nada.
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
