Ka band programming is only available on the Escort 9500ci INTERNATIONAL...and you're way ahead ditching the jammers that come with it for an ALP system...

Segmenting is available on both the Escort 9500ci and the Beltronics STIr. I have had both. Segmenting in the 9500 began last year with a software update. Units are largely identical, but he BEL let's you use other shifters. Escort will give you an error message if you don't use their shifters. And unless something has happened recently, escort has not updated its laser shifter software in over a year. ALP updates their shifters every two months it seems.

Default Front mounting of heads on 2016 C7 Stingray convertible

Any suggestions as to HOW to mount the front 2 heads in my stock grill on a 2016 C7 convertible? Looks like I will have to cut a space in the grill for the head, but theres nothing flat or sturdy to mount to with either the included metal clip from ALP or 3M adhesive tape. Has anyone encountered this and found a solution??

It is a requirement that you use a minimum of 2 heads on each end of your vehicle to protect yourself against ALL guns on the market. Having 3 heads verse 2 on the front is fine but having only 1 on the rear will not fully protect your rear.

You can either have them move 1 head from the Front to the Rear as we recommended or add an additional head to the rear. For full protection your rear should look like this:

I used 2 sided tape and taped them to the underside of the bumper cover in front of the grill. When I get time I am going to look at riveting the supplied mounting bracket to the bumper cover in the same spot if it can be shortened enough.

Opps, sorry. That was on my Stingray. I haven't gotten an ALP for the Z06 yet. I think would still work on either one. The 3 m tape works really well. You just need to be careful when washing & drying that you don't catch them and tear them loose but some fresh tape will fix it.

I have a little experiment you can do to simulate what is happening. takemyour index finger and thumb and hold then very close together, almost touching and hold them up to a light source. You will see little bands of dark and light as the light passes between your fingers. The dark is where the light is being bent and interfering with itself and canceling itself out. The light areas is where the light is not interfering with itself. This is what happens when you place the the radar receiver behind a grill. The grill bends the radar wave and can cause it cancel itself out.

Remember when you where a kid and you would shine a flash light through your hand or your fingers when closed together and you would srr the light transmit through your phone or fingers. This is similar with radar when it passes through a solid plastic (non metalic) object such as a flat bumper cover.

Wow. Lots of folklore in this thread! As a radar engineer and RF missile Seeker designer I can tell you that you have absolutely no understanding of Radar phenomenology. First, plastic is a dielectric. That means electric and magnetic fields and waves pass through it. It can, just as a glass of water bends the image of a pencil, cause radar waves to bend IF the plastic obstruction is larger than several wavelengths. Transmission through it, however is almost lossless. In the case of the West Coast installation, the 35 Ghz wave (about 1/4 inch wavelength) is much smaller than the lattice openings in the grille so the wave passes through completely undisturbed. In the case of the Urethane rear bumper cover, refraction is minimal due to the orientation of the surface being almost normal to the poynting vector of the wave. The receiver antenna mounted behind the urethane cover will still receive uniform illumination from a far field (greater than 12 feet away) source.

You are aware are you not that the OP is talking about a laser detection/jamming device, not a radar detector?

No he's not..he's critiquing the placement of the STiR+ radar antenna head being placed behind the plastic grill.

"1. The Beltonics STiR+ radar receiver should not be placed behind a grill. Although radar signals will pass through plastic, the slats in the grill will change the radar waves resulting in significantly less range and possibly missing some radar signals. "

The grill in the z06 has openings that the stir+ will fit in. I mounted mine through the grill and it works great.

The STiR+ works just fine behind the plastic grill...as I posted earlier I have mine on my ML63 behind the grill and it works stellar..good choice btw !
