Do you get the nasty wind buffeting with the top off?

Default roof off

When the roof is off the car is great. And literally no significant buffeting at speed. I drive highway at 60-70 no problem. I've even seen 100 or so and no noticeable buffeting.

This is a terrific attribute for our Z06's.

There is some, but I don't find it objectionable at all.

So when you lock the doors, is there a motion sensor inside the cockpit? I worry about coming back to my car and see someone sitting in it...or throwing a drink in it (jealous people you know).

Where I work, a guy parks hi Ferrari California, top down, and I think people are more scared than anything that they might do something to the car and he doesn't have issues.

Myabe I will relax once I get it!

I've been driving convertibles for over 20 years. The top-off buffeting in the Z06 coupe is minimal.

As far as when to park with the top off v. top on, IMO you have several factors to consider:

1) Hot summer day/scalding seats & sun damage;
2) Dust/pollen/insects/tree sap;
3) Security from theft/vandalism;
4) Attention in general.

Oh, yeah....and "rain in the forecast."

Unfortunately, the biggest negative of the hardtop v. convertible is that you might get your nice clothes dirty removing or replacing the top. I do it solo, and I have not found a way not to hold the top against my pants or shirt while changing hand positions. And no matter how "clean" the car is when I leave home, dust or pollen will adhere to the car.

As for the other items, common sense applies. When in doubt, put the top up and lock the car.

For hot weather I just flip the seat backs forward. This way when you get back to the car they haven't been in the sun all day.

The car does have a motion sensor and if someone reaches in and hits unlock on the inside the alarm goes off.

Yes vandalism is a concern, but I wouldn't leave the top off in an area I was worried about that. If I'm out shopping in a nice area, golfing, or out to eat I don't worry about it.

You'll want to double-check that assumption. My understanding is that the motion sensor is disabled when the top is down. So if someone cuts your top and reaches in, it'll go off. But if you leave it down, you're on your own. Or so I'm told.

I looked in the manual but 'motion' occurs 11 times and isn't in regard to a motion sensor.

No... I mean if you reach in an hit the unlock button the alarm will go off from that alone. I'm pretty sure the cars with the upgraded security system have a motion detector which is why you can sometimes get the "theft attempted" message on the DIC if the car is rocked or the wind blows too hard.

I looked into it some more and the consensus is that the motion detector DOES INDEED work with the top down.

Default Top off from 60-85 Degrees is a must

Love the Z with the top off. Great driving feeling. Got to be careful with my various Corvette caps flying out, LOL

If they offered an option for a bolted in, fixed roof, I'd pay extra for that (altho I fully understand I'm in a very small minority on that).

Mine's never been off, and if it stays quiet (it has so far), it'll never come off.

Agree! Same here, I actually wish that Chevrolet would offer it in a solid "hardtop" version.

C5Z06 days people beg for a targa Z06. Now we have the targas and people want the roof bolted in place.
