The 2016 looks like it has something creating a tint over the lens. At first I thought it may be a white balance issue but if you look at the upper third of it they match the 2017
When you record, where is the PTM mode displayed? Is it above or below the RPM display?
If you watch Spearfish's video in post# 3, at about 1:33 into it he switches it from his older PDR video to his buddy's 2017 PDR video, and you can see the PTM mode info change from just above the RPM display to below it.
If you got your PDR updated to be the same as a 2017, perhaps the PTM info display will have moved to below the RPM display.
EDIT: while I was typing CFHay made the post above, and you can see the difference in where the PTM mode info is displayed in the two pictures he put up.
.
Also, notice that the lap time display is continuous (doesn't reset after each lap). Is this a new option for 2017. I do hope I can update my 2015 PDR software to the 2017 software.

I'm quite sure he just never defined the finish line. If I don't define the finish line on my 2016 I get the track map and just one looooong lap time - the length of the entire session.
Updated my PDR software today. 2016 Z06. TIS shows an update 17-NA-013 for the PDR software. Unclear what year it is for. It did updated my car. The version is below. I did not check the previous version. If someone can check a 2017 PDR version for comparison.
Just look at the track overlay and see if the data location changed. 2017 places it below the RPM bar.

Wow great observation , I completely missed that! So factoring in some sort of shroud adjustment or lens issue on the bottom 2/3 of the screen the clarity does appear to be the same in the upper portion.
I do see the shading added to the mph readout and different location of some of the info which would be a fairly simple software update.
Silly question, what color interiors do both cars have?
Reason I ask is could it somehow be the dash reflection?
I can see what looks the be the hud opening in the lower portion of the screen being reflected on the windshield.
Software update on a 2016 PDR did not change the display. Looks the same as delivered from GM.
2017 Grand Sport had updated PDR display at the roll out last June. https://youtu.be/Wa2gDXv1hrQ
Tadge stated last May "We do have a solution for 2017 and the good news is that it is backwards compatible to all prior PDR-equipped vehicles. The software update should be available this Summer" in one of the ask Tadge threads.
Still waiting for the PDR and the supercharger upgrades for 2015 & 2016 models.

Watching Oliver Gavin's lap around AMP above, I absolutely don't think that is any better quality than I've seen on my PDR. I'll be there next month and record video for comparison but don't think it will be as drastic of a difference as from the OP.
There's the man who gets it. The cameras are still 720p, so there's no resolution change. There might be different processing done in software to make the colors pop a bit more, but I'm guessing lighting has more to do with it.
both cars were running on the exact same track at the same time, so lighting is the same. - very CLEAR in the 2017....jmo
Regardless...That looked like a helluva lot of fun. The closest track to me is Willow Springs and it's like driving on a sand dune. I would love to hit that track. Great job guys

For folks information: I've checked with the engineering team and there have been no hardware or software changes for the PDR for MY 2017. Some production tolerances were tightened up a bit in July last year. But it's not enough to have caused the massive difference in the two. Neither is it something that can be "upgraded to".
JVP thanks for checking, maybe the one that looks worse has a bad lens or otherwise defective hardware? Maybe he should have camera replaced under warranty? What do you think? Also, the software must have changed as PTM modes are showing at a different spot in the two videos, so if no changes why is that different?
