BMS Intake Filter Performance
What speeds were you seeing on the straights? Mine just got delivered today and wanted to know if/how many people were having issues at high speeds (140mph+)

I'm at 10k miles right now and i'm debating on buying a stock filter (2 year maint for me, not 25k miles), or just taking a chance and ordering a BMS.
I don't mind if it doesn't work, and even if i have to resell the filter on this forum to get some money back and return to stock. But the thought of the car going into limp mode when i'm out there on the road is kinda scary to think about. That's the only thing that's making me hesitant.

Ask Terry about his money back guarantee if it sets off trouble codes on your car.
Surely he will not deny you a refund if hs filter does not work properly on your car that would force you have an expensive tune performed on your car to get his filter to work properly without dangerously leaning out your engine that risks engine damage and voiding of your Chevrolet warranty due to an altered tune.

Car is currently at dealer getting re-flashed plus couple other goodies, They were familiar with the issue. Will know shortly if the flash resolves it or not.

I may just buy one. I'm off from work in a couple of weeks so at least if something goes wrong I can swap out easily.
I'll update this thread with my results.

(1) The installation was straightforward, and took me about 25 minutes. The filter is a pretty tight fit, so getting the intake cover back on took some effort. Once installed, no codes or other issues, and the engine seemed to adjust to the filter immediately. This is a simple mod that really anyone can do with a few basic tools (flat-blade screw driver, 7mm hex nut driver, #25 torx driver).
(2) I have not had the car dyno'd, but independent dyno tests on similar Stingrays have produced peak increases of about 10 hp and 9 lb-ft of tq (and even somewhat larger non-peak hp and tq deltas near redline). Although in a car this powerful this is not enough to really notice SOTP, every increase helps and it does provide bragging rights (470 hp, 474 lb-ft sounds way better than 460 hp, 465 lb-ft ;-).
(3) As many have noted, throttle response is much better. And by throttle response I don't just mean less pedal needed for a given rpm; I mean the LT1's annoying tendency to stutter or momentarily pause on sudden WOT is gone. I mean GONE. Mash the pedal all the way down and the response is immediate. No annoying stutter. No annoying pause. Just gone baby, gone ;-). This is a big deal because it makes the driving experience much more enjoyable.
(4) The exhaust sound is noticeably louder. This is most evident on cold startup with a fast idle: With the BMS filter providing better air flow and the NPP exhaust wide open the sound is just gorgeous. Same thing on WOT: A raucous rumble is transformed into a thunderous roar.
(5) Also, the annoying quirks of the GM 8L90 (A8) transmission are virtually gone! This is big. Many owners of C7 Corvettes with the A8 trans, especially Stingrays, complain that some gear changes flare and slip and others are jerky and harsh (in both M and D modes). In my own car, the 2-3 upshift often flares and slips, and the 4-5 upshift tends to be jerky and harsh. The colder the transmission the worse it is, but it never goes away. That is, it never went away until I installed the BMS air filter. Now, suddenly, once warm there’s no more slipping and flaring, and no more harsh and jerky upshifts -- just smooth shifts up and down the gears the way it should be. I don't know exactly what's going on here, but I suspect the added torque across the rpm range and the fact that the trans runs a few degrees warmer with the BMS filter installed are just enough to resolve the issue. This problem varies somewhat from car to car (and GM says it's "normal"), but I expect that nearly every A8 Stingray owner with the BMS filter installed will notice a significant improvement in shifting.
(6) With the improvements noted above the car is now a lot more fun to drive but the mileage remains about the same -- if you can keep your foot out of it ;-).
So, that's about it. Overall, I’m very pleased with the BMS air filter. For me, the improvements in throttle response, A8 shifting and exhaust sound really enhance the driving experience (and don’t forget about those hp/tq bragging rights ;-).
