Doing the Math
The ZL1 1LE got 7:16.04 at the Ring (officially) and unofficially a 7:13.
Few different ways of doing the math to extrapolate what the C7 Z06 would likely be capable of at the Ring:
Most conservative (using the green track LS time as a ratio to a Ring time equal to ZL1 1LE's LS time vs Official Ring time) = 7:11.18.
More reasonable (using the green LS time as a ratio to a Ring time equal to the ZL1 1LE's LS time vs Unofficial Ring time) = 7:08.17
Or if we do two steps of math, the first being to adjust the Z06 green LS track time to a Z06 ideal conditions LS track time based on the time difference between the ACR's green LS time vs ideal LS time we get a LS time of 1:31.18, which results Ring times of 7:02.56 and 6:59.6 when applied against the ZL1 1LE's official and official times, respectively.
Or if we take an average of all 4 we get 7:05.38.
Whichever it is, it's probably likely that the new ZR1 could at least hit the most aggressive math for the Z06, i.e. the 6:59.60 time

It got swept away. Cuz, in here, God forbid the Z get compared to anything as any basis of discussion about the Z.

The picture is from 2 days ago and it was right near the Ring (the photographer lives near the Ring and has taken tons of shots of cars currently there).
Edit: Also the thread title is going to ruffle some feathers as it could be seen as a swipe at Tadge The Immaculate.

Shame we won't ever get a time for 2015 & 16' to compare it to.

I will bet you, however, we see better numbers from the ZR-1 months from now. It falls right into their playbook. Today's marketing pitch is the ZL. Tomorrow... ZR... next up mid-engine x 3 levels. The C7 family is their security blanket.

So if the ZL1 1LE popped off a hand timed 7:13, the new ZR1 will be well under 7 minutes. I was taking segment times of the ZR1, ZO6 and the ZL1 1LE at Laguna Seca when they were here two months ago. I also got a time on the ZL1 1LE with Pobst driving during Motor Trends Best Drivers Car Test a few weeks ago. The advantage of the ZO6 over the ZL1 at Laguna is substantial enough for me to project a 7:06ish on the new 2017 or 2018 ZO6 and the ZR1 will be well under 7:00 for sure, maybe even low 7:00s. The segment times that I took at Laguna a few months back between the ZR1 and the new (I presume 2018) ZO6 were glaringly different.

As soon as I saw the 1LE ZL1 Laguna Sega time I compared it to the z06 and concluded the Z06 has got to be a sub 7:10 second Ring car.
