Was driving my C8 yesterday, stopped at a friends house for a few minutes. When I restarted the engine there immediately was a noise from the left front fender area that was a combination squeal / grinding sound. Frunk hood was up and my friend verified from outside the car that the noise originated under the left front fender. It lasted perhaps 5-10 seconds until I mashed the start engine button to kill the motor. I restarted and everything was fine. Drove the car this afternoon and had several engine start / stop/cycles, everything fine.
What motorized item item is located in the left front fender area?
New Member! Decided to take my baby for a drive Sunday. Only 238 miles. Went to a family members home and parked. Their driveway has a steep incline. When I was ready to leave my car would not go into reverse. Finally just rolled into the street and was able to go into drive. Once I was home I tried again and reverse worked. Was talking with other C8 owners and they suggested I have it check for low fluid. Call and made a appointment today with dealer. I notice on the drive there that the car was shifting hard from 1st to 2nd. Also the “idle creep temporary disappeared’ light came on at every stop I made. Dealer called after a few hours and informed me they were waiting on GM to call them back. (Also when I drove up to the dealership their drive had a steep incline. I parked the car and the technician call me and said the same thing happen to him. He could not put the car in reverse. Hopefully will find out something tomorrow.

Wow. Not good. My manual C6 had the same problem. Getting it into reverse was hit and miss. I had 5000 miles on it when I got rid of it. When it locked out the reverse gear I had to get out and push to resync it. Surprised that it's happening on the automatic. Keep us posted. I'd really like to know what they found out.
Fluke incidents or not, these incidents will be posted on this forum and having them in one location is helpful for all of us. I agree about the axle, but identifying all the weaknesses of the C8 in one spot and acknowledging that they exist can help us in the future— similar to the issues of cracked wheels and overheating issues on the C7, both which seem to have been addressed in the development of the C8.
its part of the design for Axel to fail as not to damage the inner part of the trans due to extreme force applied maybe
I don't have a C8 but in my C6 after 65k miles, I got a check engine light come on and from that point on the car would not shift out of 3rd gear. It was an automatic.
I got home turned the car off and on again and took it out and the same thing...it would not shift out of 3rd gear. Car sat at home for 3 days without me using it and the check engine light did not turn on after starting it and it shifted into all gears. Drove it to the dealership and they said a transmission sensor went bad and needed replacing. After replacing the sensor, no problems. The transmission pan needed to be removed to replace the sensor and sensor was an in stock item!
Hope they get the bug's out so I can get one next year
exactly why its not always great to be first in line, we all want one but who wants the heartache. i always let most of the bugs get worked out or at least be educated on what im getting into.
I had a similar problem with my C6 manual transmission. You never knew when it would refuse to shift into reverse. The only way to fix it was to get out and push until the gears re-synced. I'm really bummed out that the same type problem is popping it's ugly head up in a totally new automatic DCT. :-{
Hopefully this problem will be fixed by the time I get my 2021 HTC order in .

No, you DID NOT have a similar problem with your C6 manual. There is nothing remotely similar about the transmissions, so why did you feel compelled to say such an irrelevant thing here?
I once had a flat tire in my 2003 Z06. Hopefully GM will do something about these damn flat tires, because I'm really bummed out that this same type of problem might be popping it's ugly head in with the new C8 tires......

Exactly how dense are you anyway? I never said manual transmission = automatic transmission. If the transmission won't shift it doesn't matter. It's useless if it doesn't work. The only thing irrelevant here are your useless and dumb posts.

Your choice of numbers are way out of line given that not many C8s have been delivered. Questions are: How many have been delivered? How many failures are there? Typically big companies tend to try to keep bad news under the radar until there is no longer a way of denying it. Hence it's hard to make an objective decision.
All I have is subjective data to base my decision on. So far the highest VIN I've seen is around 670. I've seen about 8 transmission problems involving odd gear no shifts, leaks and reverse shifting problems. I've also seen a lot of Engine Light On problems with no apparent problem. Then there are the cosmetic type of problems which show a lack of QC. When you factor in the notion that most of the delivered C8s haven't been driven that much (covid) I'm pretty certain we're going to see a lot more problems surface.
It's a new transmission based on existing technology and I've been told that Chevy did extensive testing to insure they got it right. Right now it looks like more testing was needed. I've owned both a C5 and a C6. I swore off Chevy and Corvettes after I dumped my C6 because of all sorts of weird problems involving the entire car, especially the transmission. A manual transmission is one of the simplest types of transmissions and I certainly wasn't expecting the C6 problems I had.
I want a C8, however having been burned once I've become a little leery of Chevy and it's QC culture. It's a beautiful car, but beauty is only skin deep. I don't plan on racing the C8 but I do want to be able to rely on it when I want to drive it. In short: Right now I'm going to watch and wait. We will see how Chevy deals with the current issues.
Right now there is way too much C8 fever and marketing and not enough cumulative miles and reliability history. I don't need the aggravation of buying an expensive headache.

Like many other I'm sure, the trans is an area of concern. I mean reliability and durability.
there should be a separate sticky for any transmission related issues imo.
Right wrong or indifferent they will be lost among the bickering and other minor nuisances with the car.
I hope the mods will do that so we can watch and track and hear (hopefully good things) about their dispositions.
