Default C8 problems

Now that C8s are starting to roll out, I thought it might be good to start a single thread of issues people have noticed, however big or small they may be, to raise awareness for what other members should look for and what GM can continue to improve upon. I’m hoping this can be made into a “sticky” to find it easily and requesting everyone to please keep it positive and not bash GM, Chevy, or the dealers and not to compare any issues to other manufacturers as that wouldn’t be helpful to any of us.

Some issues that have been noted so far...

Passenger window started going up and down by itself while driving. Crazy. Any idea what going on . Goes back to service tomorrow. Vehicle is sweet though

Transmission leak?

Weak axle?
Granted it broke drag racing with nitrous, so maybe well deserved, but a warning to those who are considering mods

I'm not sure there is enough vehicles out yet to warrant such a thread. All the issues so far are fluke incidents until proven otherwise via incident reports en masse. And the axle breaking was a result of a big shot of nitrous so I'm not sure that even counts.

Fluke incidents or not, these incidents will be posted on this forum and having them in one location is helpful for all of us. I agree about the axle, but identifying all the weaknesses of the C8 in one spot and acknowledging that they exist can help us in the future— similar to the issues of cracked wheels and overheating issues on the C7, both which seem to have been addressed in the development of the C8.

All cars have issues, with all the deliveries, things are bound to come up, having a location to share is helpful. The "broken axle" can be a heads up to others who may try nitrous ............

Couldn't have been much of a "big shot" as it only ran 12.11 at 118. Should do that stock.

I completely agree with the thread. Were it not for this forum I would never have found out about the Driveshaft issues on my '14 C7 and more would the dealer had I not shown them the posted video. This happened around 7,000 miles and again around 14,000. No I never stressed it as this is my daily driver and my 1st Vette and I am >70. I am l am going to get a C* within a year.

My cousin's 3LT---VIN00403---experienced at self-blowing horn soon after he took delivery last Wedneday. When driving it would toot on its own, or respond to the slightest finger pressure. Straight back to dealer, no cause or solution known to me just yet. Maybe a horn pad contactor issue, maybe needs a new wheel....dunno yet. I'll post back as soon as I learn of the fault.

Edit: As of 3/18 I have no new info on this, other than the tech confirming "You just barely touch it. Honk!" They suspect it's an airbag/install/clearance issue, and are talking to HQ before digging into that complex wheel looking for a problem. Will report back when I know more.

Edit: Nothing yet as of 3/20. Lots going on in the world vs.a honking horn in a Chevy.

Edit: Turns out it was a mis-aligned airbag under the horn pad. Removal of the pad and bag, followed by careful replacement solved the problem.

Funny, the 2013 and 2014 Vipers had the exact same issue with the horn you mention when released as an all new platform in 2013. Horns would also go off in garages randomly, even with cars parked and turned off

This may actually be a non-issue. The plan was to replace the video module since it was flickering at the dealer (I didn't actually see it go blue during PDI or flicker when picking up), but since I've had it home and driving it for 2 days it's been working perfectly.

Default Transmission problem

Today just before reaching my first 400 miles the transmission started only changing from gears 2-4-6-8.... turned off and on and same issue... later on the way back home (good thing I was close to home) it wouldn’t change from gear 2 for a while than it started again back to head 2-4-6-8... its like the car doesn’t recognize gears 1-3-5-7. I guess it’s the price to pay for been in the first batch of production.... I’ll be contacting my dealer tomorrow.....

Could help my self and restarted the car and back to normal.... I didn’t try putting it in reverse the first time... but in any case just drove the car for some 20 miles and just like if nothing ever happened😁!!!! Happy for that but concerned about when will this issue shows again 😟...

If anyone has experienced something similar, please reply and let me know...

Besides this issue the car has been just pure joy... perfect in every way....

I will keep updates as GM is contacted and I get information about this issue!!!

i got my car in service today... they believe it has to do with the car learning the driver patterns and so on. They uploaded a refresh update in my odd gears into the system and most importantly I got my car back the same day!!!! I will inform periodically on this situation.. my hope is that all is good and taken care now!!!! C8 rocks and yes I will be in line to buy it again.. it’s beyond imagination...🏎❤️It!!! 😀

Hi folks, my Corvette was serviced yesterday 3/24/2020. The technician was able to recover 3 codes (P0700, P2838, P2839) if anyone can help me understand what they mean that will be awesome...

with intense help from GM tech support, the transmission programming for odd gears was reset and reloaded. GM believes it is possible that is related to the learning mode and so on...

I got my Corvette back at the end of the day... 😄...

Take care for now!

wonder if this has anything to do with global b? I don’t know how it works, but maybe you were in the middle of an OTA update? after some time it’s done and your restart completed it?

Hopefully just a computer glitch or chaffed wire. In mid 2000's (like through 2012) the Ferrari Getrag DCT's had issues with sensors causing similar issues inside of the gearbox requiring the DCT to be removed to replace them. Maybe through some genius engineering, Tremec made THOSE types of sensors accessible while the gearbox is in the car?

Good luck. hope for a positive outcome and the explanation. obviously for many, the most concerning change was going to a first ever DCT (i know it is for me).
