I also have, and used these, but due to the design of these bolts, you need to keep the impact gun very vertical (perpendicular), or you might spin the socket. Doing this 22 times, once, was convincing enough for me to switch to something more reliable, despite having the tools.

That picture of the socket appears to have a deep chamfer. You could grind down the edge to lessen the chamfer to make it more forgiving of of-axis use on the low profile heads.

Easier and more secure for automated power tools to grip the bolt head without worries about strippingn it.

Yep, in my How To Change Brake Pads PDF have pic below. Included in my many How To pics because someone posted they stripped the 4 threaded front "pad position pins" because he said they were Torx Plus NOT Torx. I bought the Torx Plus Bits. Turns out they were just Torx NOT Plus! But can see they are easy to strip as the torque required to remove (since they have Locktite) is pretty high. I found it was critical to have the bit perpendicular. To make that easier I used a larger 1/2 inch drive ratchet and a 1/2 to 3/8 adapter to fit the bit.

Last week installed a Speedway Composites carbon fiber tube Cross Brace on my E-Ray. The two rear bolts that have to be removed use T-15 Torx bits. Was prepared to do the same 1/2 inch ratchet and 1/2 to 3/8 adapter I used on the brake pad pins.. Appeared difficult to reach since those two bolts are next to the cabin glass on my coupe. Turned out they were only torqued to ~10 ft-lbs and no Loctite was used. I used some Blue Loctite when I reinstalled over the Cross Brace stainless fittings.

SIDEBAR
Recall an issue when our plant decided to use square drive bolts on our welding power supplies. Their reason why, was they were faster and less effort to use in manufacture. In addition to the business/product management I had customer service, phone tech folks, training including repair shop training.

That training service tech manager quickly told me his phone support techs were getting complaints from the service stations. At the time most of our 300+ distributors had repair stations. Their Techs called wanting the square drive tools in all sizes we were using! Got the plant to return to more conventional fasteners!

It just this kind of ridiculous logic that has caused far better fastener designs to languish and even die.....

Yeah, hex is best for me. As I get older, my self labor is getting more expensive, and I can't see myself holding the impact gun perfectly straight 22 times every time I need to drop that cover : ))

Yep, as I recall square drive did not take off. Frankly when you have two strong welding machine competitors and at the time most distributors had repair shops when their techs complained about your product being a PIA to repair for whatever reason it effected sales.

Smart not to **** off your customers! Gee are you originally from Canada where it was invented?

I replaced the sheer plate bolts with these:

Don't use power tools much less a impact gun. Just isn't needed.
