I dont understand why its such a problem when people say something negative about the C8. Do you want this to be an echo chamber?

Its okay to say the C8 looks great, but if you say it looks ugly you're just a troll, right? Insanity.

I think the C8 is ugly, too. I also had a deposit on one until I canceled it (for reasons unrelated to its apperance).

Opinions are okay, people. It only becomes problematic when someone is on this forum and chastises, trolls, or disrupts others who are just trying to share their opinion. Your opinion isnt worth any more just because its a positive one.

Hou would have to follow a few of Yarbie post to see why the push back.

He trolls the C8 forum with negative comments constantly.

I think he just getting some of his own meds.

Frankly I dont care what folk think about the C8.

I order one because I think GM did a super job and for 94k one I ordered is exceptional value and I think it will perform great as well.

This is a place where the majority of people are celebrating the reveal of the C8 and the growing excitement of taking home a mid engine vehicle for a very low price. Frankly, very few of us are interested in the constant negativity spewing and extremely silly reasons some forum members come here to vent (just for attention) regarding why they think the C8 is ugly, hideous, looks like a Camaro, should have a manual for x reason because they know more than Tadge and the Corvette team, etc.

To elaborate further, there is a right way and a wrong way to express one’s opinion. For example, “I really wish the C8 didn’t have such a large trunk, it makes the car a bit long, but I understand why the Corvette designers had to incorporate it but I’m still getting one”. That is the right way to make known your grievances. Starting a thread called “it’s ugly” is just trolling to be a troll and basking in the smell of your own farts.

Well, it's not as ugly as a C7, C4, rubber C3...so there's that.

This will probably ruffle feathers, but I pretty much agree with IronV’s criticisms of the C8 and I think there are some people in denial about the fact that those criticisms are valid. Many may still like it despite those criticisms, and that’s fine, but the C8 is objectively a busy design, it has a large front and rear end, and is a large car (Aventador sized, rather than Huracan sized).

I find those things unappealing in a sports car, personally.

My biggest personal gripe is that I think the C8 could have had it all. Looks and value, but it just didn’t quite do it imo.

Fortunately, I can afford much more expensive cars and will be able to enjoy driving those. I’m hopeful that the Z06 or ZR1 will be enticing enough for me to add one to the garage though.

Well turns out he was right it is ugly, it doesn’t look like a Corvette and it does look like a half azzed copy of an Italian sports car. Sort of like buying a Rolex look alike watch. I was planning to order an C8 in 2021 but not after seeing this botched up mish mashed Frankenstein Ferrari look alike.

The mid engine design dictates certain shapes so there is no way around the car having some Italian feel to the look. Exactly what would you have done to make it look more like a Corvette?

I agree with those that are puzzled by reactions to people's opinions.

I personally love everything about the Corvette C8. I also enjoy listening to Frank Zappa... eating ribeye medium rare... drinking Guinness... watching reruns of Last Man Standing... yadda yadda yadda.

The point being that the fact that others detest some of the things I desire has no bearing on my preferences... just as I don't ever to expect my opinions to have a bearing on theirs.

So if you find the C8 ugly, that's cool.

You may love the chaos. Nothing wrong with that. More power to you.
In the November print issue of Automobile magazine, Robert Cumberford, their design critic (who used to work for GM and worked on Corvette concept and prototype cars during the C1 era), analyses the C8. He is "severely disappointed". His most commonly-used words to describe the C8: "busy", "confused", and "downright messy". He said he was hoping for something more clean and original, like the Astro Vette / Four Rotor. He is complimentary to the car's engineering, and has high hopes for the general goodness of the car overall. Interestingly, the one thing he found acceptable about the rear end was the exhaust tips! His analyses and opinions are well regarded within the industry, but it is just one guy's opinion. I happen to agree with him on this car, and apparently, lots of other Corvette enthusiasts do, too. That won't keep me from buying one if I actually fit in it and it doesn't beat the crap out of me while I'm driving it.

The answer to that question is now in. Apparently, no, they can't. This car was severely beaten with the Bennion stick.

GM was the first to develop a system that was good enough that other companies wanted to license the use of it. The Bose system was far more complex (an entire suspension system rather than just a damping system) and had far more in common with Citroen and Mercedes (ABC) systems than it does with GM's.

Those of us who are disappointed in the final design are also celebrating the reveal of the C8. How could we not? It's Zora's dream finally come true...though it has come decades too late. If it did look more like a Camaro, it couldn't possibly be any worse. And, yes, it would be nice if a manual becomes available.

Thanks for the "opinion primer", but we'll probably continue to think for ourselves anyway.

C1, C4, and C6 were the only Corvettes that were not over-styled, and C4 was the cleanest and most subtle. Hot-Wheels could easily have styled the rest...including the C8. But please take note, this is just my opinion.

I loves the curves on both the C2 and C3. But to me, the C4 was the most cohesive and subtle of all the Corvettes which have now become overdone. Happy to see an ME car. Look forward to its evolution.

Much of the size and proportions are dictated by traditional Corvette design constraints: enough luggage capacity to make it fit for daily driving and long tours. Enough cooling to not overheat in stop and go traffic in Phoenix or Houston. Practical enough to meet GM's serviceability standards. Enough interior room for Americans, not skinny little Italians.

That means larger front and rear overhangs than a Ferrari capable of carrying an attache case. It means big radiators up front, (and side mounted to allow for a bigger frunk). It means enough room around the engine that you don't pay $1500 for an oil change. And a passenger compartment long and tall enough for someone who weighs 300 pounds and/or is well over 6 feet tall.

Is the car perfect? No, certainly not. Some of the details are very busy. I think it could be cleaned up a good bit. But overall, after spending a lot of time looking at the cars at NCM, I agree with my Porsche driving older brother: It looks bitchin'.

And to those who say it looks like a Ferrari: hogwash. It has very similar proportions, as do most mid-engine cars, but it's shapes and details say nothing but Corvette.

Agree... went and saw the car at lunch yesterday and then with my wife for the "VIP" portion of the event from 5-7PM. The car really covers everything. It has functional space, functional storage, capability, and amazing looks. There's nothing on the market like it. My only gripes were:

1. The rear end is busy... it's not bad in person, but it's the weakest part of the car. I love the tail lights, the exhaust, and the diffuser.... I guess I mainly don't like the license plate inset area.

2. A little too much C7. I liked my C7, but you can clearly see the same folks designed this car. It's softened.... literally, if you touch the body lines down the side of the car they're not as creased as the C7, but still similar design language. I guess that's more of an observation vs. a gripe. I.e. this is the car they wanted to build, but then had to do the "stop gap" C7 after GM's BK.

One other observation... GM didn't make the car overly long to fit the trunk... that space existed by the very nature of having a V8 with a DCT behind the passengers. That's a longer combo vs. say a NSX's V6. That space was naturally there over top of the DCT and it was logical to use it. Up front, you are constrained by the packaging of the wheel "boxes" (where the tires turn and live in as the suspension moves and car turns) vs. the passenger footwell needs.

There is no wasted or illogical space on this car.

Default C5 and C7 vs C8 criticism ONLY the C8 has been called Ugly

I was around for the launch of the C3, 4, 5, 6, 7.

The C5 was roundly criticized for being derivative and boring. Nobody, to my knowledge, called it "ugly."

I have NEVER seen a new Corvette described--repeatedly--as "ugly" except for the C8.

Default There is no C7 in the C8 design. Zero.

The C8 design--on the outside--is nothing but wasted lines, creases, angles, proportions. It's a mess. And bears no resemblance to the C7--which has a distinct, rakish, flowing design.

Please post this same tired view at least 47 more times. We haven't picked up on your opinion yet. It hasn't grown old and tired, it still seems fresh and insightful. Everyone is listening to you and have cancelled their orders. Get one thing straight, you can cling to the past models, but the ONLY thing you will find yourself is left behind. If you think the C7 is so much better please explain why their are over 4,000 brand new ones on dealer lots today, some dating back to 2016. The buying public could go to a dealer today and buy one, but the sales continue to languish even with huge incentives. Check with Kerbeck on ordering a C8, oh that's right, their 1,500 cars are sold out and are taking orders for the next year.

Default Function not form

With the mid engine or even the FE, Physics dictates the optimum design elements for the desired performance. A shoe box may be attractive to some but doesn't cut it aerodynamically.
So, it took 50 years of mid engine development by Chevy to get this "ugly" in some eyes and yet they say it looks like an Italian sports car that they haven't said is ugly. Function over form.

This pic is a great example of what's wrong with the C8 design. Every other supercar (like the 600LT right behind it) went with the rounded rear, which looks awesome. The boxy-square look just doesn't work on this car.
