Agreed, looks like they finally got the gearing right, plus fast shifts! On the C7, mainly the naturally aspirated models, they would fall on their face after about 100 mph and it would be a very slow crawl to 150 and beyond.
As best as I can get it from the video, 15.97 seconds from 100-150 mph.
I think I would need more noise and more power. I'll wait for the Z06. I know it will be faster and sound better. I sure hope it looks better to me. I'm thinking positive and am planning on the C8 Z06 to look and sound nasty.
Disclaimers or not that was around 4.5 sec to 60. My A8 GS at 2500 feet and no launch control could get under 4 sec pretty easy.
Your A8 had torque multiplication and a higher stall speed via a torque converter. Leaving the line at 1600 rpm in the DCT wasn't the best strategy at all, any more than it would be with a manual. Using launch control would have put him more in the power band, and so would holding both paddles in to allow launching at a higher rpm. We'll have to wait till people have more experience with the car to know what works best.
Whatever anyone says, this has to be the worst sounding corvette between C5,6,7, and 8. Base C7 stingray sounds so much better than this, I can tell you the “thing” with this car will be the sound - similar to how the downfall of the F chassis M3 was the sound coming after the V8 in E chassis.
And I am not buying the whole “sound is hard to capture in video” bullshit. Thats what everyone said in BMW forums when these videos had come out. You can watch every single base C7 stingray video and there is a very nasty, aggressive, and unique V8 sound. All of those videos are also videos and they dont sound like this.
Lastly, this issue is due to lack of exhaust piping. Sound simply does not echo enough. And aftermarket companies simply cannot cheat law of physics and make up space inside the car and lengthen the piping.
I dont buy your "lack of exhaust piping" theory. Have you ever heard an Aventador SV, Carerra GT, 911 GT3 RS, 458 Seciale? All mid engine or rear engine cars with short exhaust piping and some of the best sounding exhaust notes in the business.
With the 3.80:1 final drive in the Z51 and the Z51 DCT gearing, along with being a ME, the base C8 will be plenty quick 0-60 but with only 495 H.P., I'm not buying repeatable 2.9 sec times like everyone is taking as gospel just because a suit mentioned they have "seen sub 3 second 0-60 times". As to this particular launch, obviously not executed optimally so don't really care what the ear/hand timing is...the Stingray will be quick and fast but 495 H.P. is just a non starter for me...waitin on the Z engine platform to decide if I will be a buyer or not. As to the sound, I think it sounds pretty good for an OEM sports car.

The car was in Tour-Mode which means the exhaust was in the quite setting, get a grip Francis! I guess your not buying one.
1. No crackle on overrun.
2. No bark on upshift.
3. No fun.
1. Not good for emissions. That may not matter to you, but it probably matters to GM.
2. The "bark" represents a power interruption. Not the ideal thing for best acceleration, but sometimes useful to keep power smooth during cornering, to avoid jerking the drive tires loose. My C7 shifts differently, depending on the cornering loads present, so the C8 probably does too.
3. Depends on how you look at it. I appreciate "old-school" jerk shifting as much as the next guy (it feels fast} but also need to admit that it is not the best strategy for actually going fast.

Sadly I agree with a lot of you, this seemed much slower then expected. Slower then my C7 which doesn't seem to make a lot of sense if this was suppose to be faster. Still waiting for numbers to be released from different people to see where we are at. Think it's pretty stupid they won't just let it comes out and say what it is going to be. I'm sure they will sell this exact car for 4-5 years, why make everyone wait months/weeks to hear what it actually does when thousands already have orders placed/haven't driven it/perhaps not even seen it in person.
On this video at least, acceleration is disapointing...More than the 0-60 i completely don't care about, the 60-100 is slow even at this altitude….I measure roughly around 6s....my C7GS bolts on does around 4.5s at 3000ft for the same 60-100... Perhaps the slope was significant...
