Phanni,
You and I have been posting together on the C5 and C7 forums since I joined in 2011. I think you should do what you want to do.
You're not putting your financial future in any risk by making this move, so I would go for the C8. However, I would keep the C5. I know you love that car and it's not going to bring big $$ anyway. Let the C7 go and buy the C8 if that's what you want to do. I hate to see you leave the C7 forum, but that's life.
Wish you the best.
Hmm, none of us knows how long we have left! I'm 77 and fortunate to be in good health. Have a 2017 Grand Sport and the C8 on order will be my 6th Vette. Will enjoy and hopefully can get a C8 Grand Sport when I get "old!"
Suggest the Nike moto!
Agree, 70 is the new 50, trade in the 5 and 7 on a new 8.
Buy the dam car! I will be 78 in July. I was pricing a 1lt vert and then a 2lt. Ordered a 3lt . Appears money is not the problem. You should be at 3000.
Do not BS the wife it will complicate your health issues and you my never see the C8. Good luck
OP~
You might want to talk to your financial advisor re: the C8. Especially if they're a fiduciary/actuary.
You haven't given us enough information regarding your financial situation for us to give anything more than an emotional response.
If you have all of your financial ducks in a row, then go ahead and enjoy your new car. If you don't have all your ducks in a row, then get them lined up. Your heirs/beneficiaries will appreciate this effort, big time. For when the time comes...
He, (OP) already stated that he's "a C8 cash buyer." Keeping the old Corvettes. He later admitted to showing his OP, to his wife. She's good with him ordering a new C8. He wasn't seeking financial advice, IIRC. Any of us that pay cash for our new Corvettes, usually aren't seeking financial advice. It was more about health issues affecting the C8 buy.
The responses to the OP are interesting...
The choice, as laid out in his post, is a question of how to spend his limited amount of time left.
1) driving/owning a Corvette
OR
2) concentrating on family

What should you do ? Buy it ! At 75 and after two heart attacks followed by surgeries and, a micro stroke (thank God I was and, still am on anti clotting meds) I will have my order for a C8 submitted just as soon as the cardiologist clears me to resume my wonderlust for wandering around the con US. I don't worry about that which I can't control. I can't think of a better way to go than being behind the wheel of my C8, driving a sparsely used section of old US 66. That being the stretch between Kingman and Toprock, AZ. Grumpy (not the CF mod) is well situated financially.

Both of which I've done ........... And, will be doing ....... Looking forward to letting the C8 stretch its legs between Burns Junction and Burns .......
I'm very sorry to hear about your health. I'd agree with all these other posts. You made your money and you can't take it with you. I'm certain it will give your family more joy watching you enjoy your last days living the way you want than to inherit the money.

Mike, you're a Force of Nature...
The Grim Reaper will turn tail and run at the sight of you.

Jeez, you could write a book (or 3) using these posts as inspiration.

Will do. Gotta love that un populated stretch of OR 78 between New Princeton and BJ. 53 miles of nothing but well paved road and barbed wire fence. A few gentle curves around Ten Cent Lake. Otherwise, smooth and flat like a pool table.
You presently own 2 vettes and you need another one?
This, you only go around once does not say much. You
are looking for short term gradification. OK,you buy a
C8 will that make you happy? How long? Is your estate
in order? I would take the C8 money and give it to my
wife and tell her she can get what ever she wants ( but
not a C8 for you). Your not a Pharoe ( or Calvinist),
Or are you?
YOUR NOT TAKING YOUR WORLDLY GOODS
WITH YOU..
So something's wrong with getting a bit of 'guilty pleasure' in the end?
My wife will have plenty of ca$h for the rest of her life.
Good luck (you asked)
Is my estate I order. I was a CFP, you damn betcha my estate is in order, including complete prepaid funeral, cremation, grave site, headstone, Long ten care insurance, etc. I've even willed any, and all my Vettes to a buddy that is much younger than I, and already has several of them. He has helped me maintain my cars for decades.

Well, since you're better prepared than 99% of us and your wife has green lighted it, pick out colors and options and DO IT!
