I have a user profile (I forget why I created it but there was a reason) but my nav works without a paid subscription so there is a way around it.
I would believe nearly anything at this point. Do you know what the work around is? I was just glad to get mine back to where it was by deleting the "in-car" profile that I have not seemed to need yet. I can still log on to the MyChevrolet site from the lap top and see info about the car.

I might have just followed the prompts all the way through, I can't remember. OnStar didn't have my credit card number so they wouldn't have been able to charge me.
I had been hitting the Exit NAV button and it would do just that. I noticed the map behind the Are you sure GUI. Next time I hit the go back and I got another screen that said connected services have expired and you need to connect to an advisor. Sorry no picture. Then I believe it said do you want to connect to an advisor? and I said no, and the map showed up. Now if I press the NAV icon I do NOT get the Connected navigation solicitation and the map pop up.
Lots of people said it could be done, but this is what I had to do to get there.
I do have a profile in the car and I did not mess with it.
Thanks guys.

Reason: omission
Yup. That second display, asking you to "get started" is what I got (see post 59) after I "logged in". I did not go further than that. I just went back and deleted the profile. I see where the terms and conditions includes using and sharing data. I have no advice regarding accepting it. Since I have been using it all along, it may very well be that I somehow accepted its terms of usage a while back. I don't know.
GM Users of Navigation, OnStar® Connected Navigation and Connected Navigation
When you use GM Navigation, OnStar Connected Navigation and Connected Navigation we will save your recent destinations to allow you to easily navigate to these destinations again.
When you choose to use your current location for specifying the locale for a business finder search, or obtaining a map, we use your location information for the requested purpose, and then discard it. For OnStar Connected Navigation users, we anonymously record any search activities and results for comparative analysis and product improvement.
For GM Navigation-only users, we may store location and route information on your navigation system’s local memory. For OnStar Connected Navigation and Connected Navigation users with an active subscription who have opted-in to use connectivity, location and route information in identifiable form will be stored in our secure cloud database, until your account is deleted, to allow us to understand what actions users are taking within a session and over time so as to improve our user interface, search results, ease of use, and accuracy and to develop other features that may enhance your user experience. For OnStar Connected Navigation and Connected Navigation users, we may store your home and work addresses, favorite places, and recent destinations with your account information in our secure cloud database until your account is deleted.
For OnStar Connected Navigation and Connected Navigation users who have enabled the predictive navigation functionality, we will regularly collect and record your location (latitude and longitude coordinates and road edges) from your vehicle’s GPS hardware, whenever you are operating your vehicle. We will store this data in our secured cloud database until your account is deleted and we will use such information to customize and improve your navigation and search experience and our services, for example to provide preferred brand point of interest search results, personalized routing, and commute alerts.
If you have a cell phone, you've got a lot more data tracking already happening.
I did not agree to the Telenav terms and condition, I backed out of them, and it said I would have to speak to an advisor to get connected services, and I said no and then the NAV started working.
It is true like a number of people have said you do not need connected services (Onstar) to get the NAV to work (minus some features). You do not have to agree to the privacy statement, you just have to go deeper into the screens and say No.

Right.
The privacy policy makes it sound like there are three separate (but I would assume integrated) navigation systems or services. 1) GM Navigation, 2) On-Star Connected Navigation, and 3) Connected Navigation. With GM Navigation, it stores certain information locally (according to the policy). With On-Star Connected Navigation and Connected Navigation with an active subscription, it collects and stores some of your data in a secure cloud data base. It makes it sound as if there is a Connected Navigation service that does not require an On-Star subscription. To sort this out, I went to the On-Star site. If you get the premium subscription, you get both On-Star Turn_By_Turn Navigation and Connected Navigation (which includes use of real time traffic data). See the clips below that show that. If you get instead the Connected Vehicle subscription, you get the Connected Navigation service with real time traffic data, but not the On-Star Turn-By-Turn Navigation. I apologize if everyone else understood this - I did not. If you have no subscription service, it will continue to work locally as we already know.

Reason: add th clips
Hi, I picked up my HTC 2LT on saturday & Dealer set up Onstar trial for 1 month.
If I dont want to pay the $30ish per month can I still use my navigation, or do I have to have Onstar for the NAV to work?.
Thanks in advance. Cliff
I connect to the 'Waze' app for navigation using wireless Android Auto.Android Auto lets you access your phone apps like YouTube Music, Google Maps and Waze.
You can also make phone calls, send messages or use navigation with voice commands using Google Assistant.
