Hi, I picked up my HTC 2LT on saturday & Dealer set up Onstar trial for 1 month.
If I dont want to pay the $30ish per month can I still use my navigation, or do I have to have Onstar for the NAV to work?.
Thanks in advance. Cliff
I am not sure I even want to talk to you I am so jealous, my HTC still sitting at 3000 with a museum guess of a TPW 11/16
but anyway I am hoping that using your phone google maps or other connected through Apple play will allow on screen navigation. based on other cars with apple Play

Hey, dont be like that :-) I see that you are in Florida. I live in Clearwater. if you want to drive over hear I will take you out for a spin & show you what you have to look forward to.
If Nav came with the cars package I would say Onstar is not needed. That has never been a requirement in the past.
This your in car NAV should still work fine. You obviously would lose the Onstar turn by turn feature, but it seems silly to pay $30 a month for these types of services. You can also use Apple Carplay or Android Auto for Googlemaps and or Apple Maps.
Honestly I much prefer AppleCarplay and GoogleMaps for navigation in my car.
Well now after looking at the build site I don't know. It says something about a "Connected navigation system". I guess somebody else will have to reply. Sorry...

Yep, but for the 30 day "trial' where you have OnStar when you press the NAV Icon it reverts to OnStar! Thankfully that goes away when OnStar finally tells you the trial is gone!
Have not used it much and found it was easy to use voice command and tell it where I wanted to go!

Be careful, if you gave them a cc number you will be getting billed automatically after the free trial. Set a reminder to cancel if you do not want the service.
Nav works fine without onstar.

With CarPlay loaded with Waze and Google Maps, the in-car nav is essentially worthless and inferior in my view. The only reason for having it is that it includes the PDR, which you can't get otherwise. I've never used in the installed navs in any of our 4 vehicles because they all are equipped with CarPlay.
Not sure if this is serious, but yes of course you can get the PDR without OnStar.
Incidentally, GM is still monitoring your car even without a subscription and will send alerts via email or text if it notices anything wrong.
I do not have a subscription.
Hi, Yes it is a serious question because I was genuinely concerned if I could get Nav without a subscription, so i wondered if any other functions could be restricted/available
The only other system that has a restriction is the wifi...the salesman should have explained that you get 3gig of 4g or one month which ever comes first... this is a separate system from onstar. the best part of both these systems is that you can buy one month at a time, no contract needed. If you are planning a trip say through the tail of the dragon, you can buy one month of onstar and one month of wifi...full service onstar is 35.00 and wifi is 20.00 a month for unlimited gigs. really not worth it if the car is sitting in the garage 6 days a week..on a side note the carplay nav is better then the factory as you can use waze...after about 3years GM will try to sell an update to your in car nav for about 300.00. wouldn't surprise me if in car nav goes the way of the cd player in future units.
