I think this just happened to me... I backed out of the garage and started to lower the top and heard something snap quite loud. The top lowered just fine. When I went to put the back up I never got the Top is secure message. I got out of the car and the whole rear deck was wedged up about 3" or 4" above the rear quarter panel with the retractable claw stuck between the top and the rear quarter panel. I was too freaked out and didn't get a picture.
I immediately began to lower the top back down and stopped half way and one claw was up and the other was just hanging there. The tiny thin cable pulled through the little whole in the plastic block I was able to lower the top back down and nothing looked scratched and the body panels all seemed to line up... So it's basically stuck in the down position. I was going to try to bring the top up and operate the one nacelle claw/flap by hand but figured EFF that... It didn't look like a huge problem but now I'm a bit concerned about parts availability...

There is also a faulty sensor chip that let's your car know the top is completed when down and completed when up. This chip was altered by my mechanic and works great now. Unfortunately, you cannot order just the sensor chip, only the entire top replacement parts. If and when you have these issues, contact me.
Just got my HTC….everything seems to work fine but when I lower the top the message on the dash says ‘top not secure’….not sure why? A sensor not working correctly?
I took the car to the dealer yesterday. They didn't even pull it into the garage. I demonstrated what was happening in the express lane and the parts guy said he would order a new cable and call to let me know when it might arrive. We did manage to get the top up by having the parts guy hold the flap/claw thingy while I operated the switch. The rear deck comes down so fast that he almost got his hand caught. The Top is secure message displayed so basically I can use the car with the top up while I wait for the part to come in. Hopefully it was just a bad cable terminator that pulled off and not some problem with the synchronization or something else. Also hoping that there is no additional problem caused when they go to operate the top to get it in position for the repair considering that spring load flap is just going to uncoil as soon as the rear deck starts moving. What a PITA... We'll see how this all goes.

I'm assuming when the parts guy held the flaps in the open position he was working 'against' the spring load on them? If so, I would think it would take a guy on each side of the car each holding a flap in the open position? Curious, so if this ever happened to me I would know what to expect for a temporary fix on my own.

The flaps operate independently and the cable only broke on the driver's side...
The way the Chevrolet Protection Plan is worded, I suspect an issue like this wouldn't be covered. It will be interesting to see what happens when items like this occur out of warranty. I wonder if there is a preemptive inspection that can be performed.

It's a flimsy looking setup... This little plastic box is the junction for the upper and lower cables and there's a spring inside. The lower cable pulled right through the bottom of the plastic box.

We've had our car back to the dealer now four times with problems since the second day that we owned it. Really took the fun and joy out of getting our new corvette. Our dealer has agreed to take our car back at MSRP and we have a new car being built as we speak. We went to status 3000 last week and should have a new car by end of this month with 3 miles on it in our garage. This is what they replaced, and more.

I did have some earlier posts detailing our issues. But the problem was when the top would come up the two hooks at the windshield were not lining up with the attachments. Sometimes one would engage and the other would not, pulling it down on one side. After many attempts to fix it they replaced everything saying that one motor was going faster than the other making it not align properly. Even after total replacement it still didn't work. I did Google our problems and did not find alot of complaints with these tops. We just thought we got a bad one. (They need to incorporate an override for the 58 MPH speed limiter!!!)
All said, we love the car, and would not trade for a coupe. We have a HTC,2LT, Z51. The only change on the new car is we have added the Mag ride suspension.
Sounds like I'm having the same problem. Midway through the opening sequence, I hear a loud snap. Please let me know if you find out the problem. rgodbout@ne.rr.com Thanks
While preparing my C8 HTC for winter storage, I cycled the HTC only to find it would not go back up. The error message stated an obstruction was blocking the top. The obstruction ended up being the right nacelle which was stuck in the up position. Upon further investigation, the cable designed to pull the nacelle down into place is separated from the pulley system. So now the top is stuck in the down position until next spring when I can find a nice enough day to drive my car to the dealership. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I’ve only cycled the top down a few times so it can’t be a wear issue.

Sounds like the same problem I have. The parts guy at the dealer held the Nacelle flap while I put the top up. It goes so quickly he almost got his hand caught. They got my new cable assembly the other day and they are taking the car for a full day next week. I'm a little worried what is going to happen when the Tech goes to put the top down as the flap is sitting in their waiting to spring open as soon as the top starts to move Hopefully nothing else gets damaged. I'm a little worried about the dealer as they have a hard time even scheduling an appointment and having the parts ready for routine maintenance They did send me an email in advance asking if I would like an appraisal and an offer to purchase my car when it comes in for service

I thought about holding the nacelle back myself and putting top up until I watched how fast that part of the operation goes. Decided against it. Going to try to get dealer to order parts now for early spring appointment.

Any chance you could post some pictures of the problem area?
