What I’m wondering here is what the stock exhaust would sound like if cuts were made in these locations. I wonder how much muffling the empty chamber would provide, looking for something halfway between straight pipe and stock as stock is just too quiet from inside. The only thing I can’t figure out is how to retain really any dual mode functionality this way. Can’t think of a way to make it have a quiet and loud mode by modifying the stock exhaust. Any thoughts?

not a good idea to hack these sections out It would change how it sounds, but not improve power.
It kinda looks like a straight pipe in this section now, not much of a gain by allowing to flow to bang around in that big box to get out. Keep the velocity and scavenging going.
A few have gutted the C7 mufflers and it only changed the tone and added some drone. I suspect the same results if the same was performed on the C8 mufflers.
Keep in mind that because the car is mid engine, you won't increase the sound much inside the car even if it's a straight pipe. The whole exhaust system is behind you vs. in a front engine car, it runs underneath you so you hear it more.
The pipe with the valve on the outlet is already a straight pipe. When the valve is open the exhaust will go out both pipes. Part of it will go out through the muffled section while most will go out through the straight pipe. When the valve is closed the exhaust will only exit through the muffler path, the closing of the valve forces the exhaust to exit into the muffler chamber through holes in the straight pipe and then flow through more holes in the muffler chamber outlet pipe at much reduced volume. I have found with my C5Z, C6Z and C7Z the stock mufflers get louder with age and track duty. The more wide open time on the mufflers the louder they seem to get.

I understand how it works. It's a straight pipe with 4 dime sized holes in it and these provide some actual muffling.
I ended up performing the mod. Instead of my original idea, which would probably not have been so great, I welded all four holes in each of the loud sides shut and disabled the exhaust valves. This makes it a full straight pipe. It turned out great.

how did you end up disabling the exhaust valve? Any drone and videos?

Halfway between straight pipe and stock would be a simple muffler delete. It's not very loud even with a muffler delete, and it's relatively cheap to do vs buying a whole cat back setup. This would obviously not retain the dual mode with the valves but it's really not as loud as you would think with no mufflers.
