I guess what I have been posting about - is for the type of car that GM has never made before - and really no North American car manufacturer has - a V8 FPC mid engine high rpm car - like the European cars - that more - we got with the C8Z in my humble opinion. And it really is a rare thing.

Literally every other car option is not the C8Z’s engine setup - so there is so much other choice.

If you end up needing to pay 50-100K over for a C8Z - I would suggest an EVO for you instead as you will easily be in that range. Wait it out and go ZR1 (meaning get on a list now). EV is a great ride (Performante too) - and you would enjoy that until the ZR1 comes out. The only way I would go ZR1 - is if it was EV assist only and the redline remained. I still probably wouldn’t - but that would be a tougher call for me. FI - it’s a no for me. No question the ZR1 will be the much quicker and faster car either way.
The ZR1 will be bonkers. Just like every ZR1 in the past. People will be proud of that too when GM finally releases it. Or even releases info on it.

The great thing about the C8 generation, unlike the C7 and C6, is that this time, there's a variant FOR EVERYONE. From base, to hybrid, NA power, maybe TT? To all of the above??

This is so exciting!!!!!

Better than a 750 whp Subaru - but not by much - when it comes to staying alive at that power level.

I am sure the planet will mod this car - which makes me cry a little. With the WiFi updates - I think even the FI C8 ZR1 will have a tough time being modded without a stand alone ECU. The NA Huracan platform has done okay there - so a twin turbo setup will likely do similar for the C8Z (if you can mod around the stock ECU or get a stand alone) - but again - what the car is a NA FPC high revving motor - which is based on Euro-exotics. Not a big thing in North America manufacturing - literally ever before. It’s a new concept for many I get it.

I am happy for what it is - some won’t be.

EDIT: and either is okay.

The C8 ZR1 is going to be awesome! I can not wait to see it. Just so you know, a C7 Z06 with the 1.7 blower can make north of 800 HP easily. Lou's track car made 655 RWHP with a blower cam, full headers and exhaust and intake (For example). There are several tuners packages that use the 1.7 blower to add 200+HP to the C7 Z06.

Frankly, I don’t see the need for FI when you can add electric motors up front.
Potentially it gives u:
1. AWD
2. instant torque
3. Torque vectoring
4. more standardized parts and components

I am a big fan of AWD. I think that scenario would come down to weight though because if we go by other performance hybrids they usually add like 150hp and if the weight goes up 500-1000 pounds it would negate the power increase. If they can keep the weight reasonable it'd be a fun car though.

The LT6 is going to be LEGENDARY!
I had a 2016 GT350 the motor was smooth and powerful , but only up at high RPM it didn’t do much for my adrenal rush at 3000-4000 RPM,
you had to push it to really enjoy it! That’s great for the track, not so much for the street. At low RPMS it was lacking torque! The regular c8 stingray has more torque then the Z06. And is more responsive at low Street usable RPMs
IMHO
While the GT350 Is a great looking car, it didn’t do it for me, sold it and bought a Challenger Hellcat, Now there is instant Torque! And gobs of power for the street!
again IMHO

I guess that I understand your point. Obviously, the Z06 needs to be in the proper RPM range. However, let's remember that this car has a DCT. If the transmission is in auto mode and you floor the accelerator it will instantly shift into the proper gear and you will be good to go. Obviously the mode you are in will also effect this, but sport or race should work. If you are in manual mode, then presumably you know what gear to select.

It's a good and bad thing for both sides of the torque fanatics.

The one video eddiex had when he was riding passenger in both versions of the C8Z, i did notice when the drivers were just driving around town how high they had to rev each gear just to keep moving lol. I know it's hard to gauge the actual perception of speed through watching a video but i wonder if they were doing that just because the drive was being recorded, or that's really how you have to drive these cars now.

With me, i don't mind. Because i had cars that suffered from low end torque and i've had cars that had a lot of low end torque.

The only thing that sucked about the cars like the C7Z, or other cars of similar with very strong torque numbers at low RPM's, is that you can never hear the engine sing unless you're doing illegal speed limits.

For instance why is the gearing so damn long in a manual C7Z? 1st gear redlines at 62? 2nd 95? 3rd 125?

Like how can someone enjoy that wonderful LT4 at redline when you're already breaking usual highway speed limits in 1st gear alone? And then big ticket time in 2nd gear? Then jail time to hear the redline in 3rd gear?

This is why i always thought this C8Z is the way to go. With a lower torque number. Since that can manipulated through gearing, at least the driver can enjoy ringing this engine out through gears just fine on the street, even if you DON'T redline it. Just to hear the engine at around 6k rpm is still good enough with the gearing GM put (or so we hope).

I agree on the hellcat. I have decent experience with those cars. Insane insane value for what they are. And the 6.2 supercharged V8 sounds better than an LT4 in my opinion. Very raw.

Yes - I am quite familiar with the LT4 and it’s tiny - high revving - roots blower. And you are right - it can make 800 HP (not whp) quite easily. The problem with a tiny - high revving roots blower (especially) is heat. You add a 10% lower and it spins faster. So in essence everything you do to it - makes the problem worse. I was FBO on my C7Z for some time - ran low 10’s at low 130’s MPH - and had heat problems - all day. Even with all the cooling mods I added. Then I moved to an F1A PC and added two (and later 3) nozzle meth - and more often than not - heat was under control.

For me…the LT4 was not a great setup - stock.

I think Tadge and the powertrain engineers agree w you. LT4 was not stellar. The LT6 is STELLAR.

The very best cars I have owned have been rear or mid NA engines. Porsche GT3 and Lamborghini Hurucan Performante have been my favorite. I am so pleased that GM got on board with the next Z in terms of producing a NA mid engine vehicle. Been on a list with Mike Furman since January 2017 for the Z. Should see it in July. Can’t wait. I have a feeling the Z will perform very close to the Performante.

News flash: Corvettes have been mid engine for several generations now. You mean rear-mid-engine.

Mid-engine is a widely accepted term to mean engine behind the driver. Marketing teams started pushing front mid-engine to make it sound like it was just as good as traditional mid-engine, which we all know it is not.

thanks for clarifying. I assumed everyone knew this. In any event I was just trying to say that being a fan of mid engine NA cars based on my particular bias I have very high expectations for the new Z and believe very few cars will compare to the overall performance and driving experience.

You need to drive a gt500. That’s the ticket. Trust me. Best of both worlds and not a bad redline either at 7500 plus it’s a pretty responsive engine when you tap the throttle.

They wanted to give the corvette a swan song we will all remember and the technological marvel it will be. This car will only appreciate and never depreciate imo. Even If they make 40k of them over the run.

I've waited so long for this car and even being as high up on the list for one that I am it feels like that day is still forever away. At this point I'd be happy with a 2 stroke or a few rubber bands in the hatch.

I hoped with high hopes that it would be TT and was even duped into believing it by a pretty good misinformation campaign but when I saw the unveiling and heard the stats? It didn't bother me much. I am so over the moon in the tweaks and changes to the C8 for Z06 version its everything I'd hoped it would be asthetically. If the trans doesn't ruin the experience with all the growing pains of their DCT I think I will be in love with it out of the gate.

Agreed...I actually prefer the GT500 over the Stingray and the Hellcats...It's both a potent roll racer and a great track car. Randy Pobst ranked the GT500's track behavior above the Stingray Z51 and the GT4 in MT's Best Driver's Car competition last year.

I agree with all this. With such a high level of enthusiasm for this car it's likely it will always be in high demand and new ones may never sell below MSRP.

I really love mine and have no complaints with the car after 3150 miles so far. Got it last may. Plan is to trade it for the z when my turn comes up. Honestly hate to give it up but I have too many cars as it is lol so one has to go when the time comes.

I’m thinking the z will give a very similar performance and driving feel to the performante as well. If it does I will be very happy with that car. That huracan performante is one of my favorites and I’ve only ever driven the evo never the performante so ya should be great imo.
