Personally I would still go stick as I find it more fun rowing through the gears on the way down. Once you have the track figured out for the day you can run within hundredths of same time all day as long as you do the same thing each time down. My problem is that I'm always trying new things to find what works best to try and squeeze the most ET out. :)
Enjoy bracket racing my 6M but would vote for the automatic for drag racing primarily because of the breakage factor. The deep end is alot sooner for six speeds.
I had my days with the sticks..............and the days of changing out Clutches & Trannys in a snowstorm :mad are gone because with an auto:
Break a lot less stuff with an auto :D
What maintainence:yesnod:
If I didn't smoke the clutch the wife would, she ain't no light foot
Got out of a few tickets.... when the officer said to the judge " I heard him grab 1st, 2nd & 3rd.." "But your honor, I have an automatic!!" Well it does grab 2nd & 3rd..........Heheheh
Consistancy is key and the auto can help much more....I DO NOT LIKE TO LOOSE GRUDGE MATCHES....missed shift, to much RPM at launch, etc
One thing is for sure, 400RWHP is still 400RWHP stick or auto, and 9 times out of 10 driver error looses a win
Run what ya brung and leave the excuses at the gate :D
But ya know what, a Z only comes in a 6 speed.....hum we both say...oh well back to the clutch days ;)
I think that the A4 is better for brackets. For heads up the M6 would be fun.
Can you tell ME why you feel a 6M is better for heads up
Whats the difference??????????
IMHO the auto will give consistent performance for brackets. I don't have to have the fastest car to win. I can win by running my The more robotic you can be, the better ;)
For heads up it IS the fastest car that wins. The M6s have higher top ends. Besides in this case, since it is 'b^lls to the wall' it would be more of an adrenalin rush to row the gears. Assuming you can shift well.

Hey we have an LT4 that running in the Corvette Challenge tomorrow that say it's best ET after being converted to an A4. That is right, converted.
I figured out what I was trying to say. IMHO I would use the M6 for heads up because heads up drag racing is essentially who can deliver the most power to the track, not the wheels. If they're spinning your not accelerating the car. To my knowledge the M6 couples the engine power to the wheels more efficiently than the auto as shown in 'driveline loss'. The power translates to faster acceleration and speed. So for heads up the I want as much power as I can get. I can always optimize my launch and shifts in the manual to reduce the advantage of the auto.
The auto can win the race at the beginning with a smooth launch and quick shifts, but the manual can win at the end after they are both done shifting.
My assumption is that the engine and tires are equal and the only difference is the tranny. We all know that heads up guys hop up the car as much as they can afford. ;)
That's good news on your car. I would be curious if the auto made a difference in your launch.
The preceding thoughts are just that, thoughts. :)
JP you and me race alot and have been doing it for a long time. we have both raced and done very well with stick shift car. i don't see what all the fuss is about???????????????
Some race 6Ms. Some race A4s. Is a 6M harder to race sure. Just something else to think about and go wrong.
But what most people here forget is that almost everyone here bought their vette becaused they wanted a vette the way they wanted it. I'll bet none of the went to their chevy dealer and said I want to race so I;ll buy a 4A or 6M. Racing was an after thought.
When we both got on this forum only Dennis, Brian, You, me and a few others raced. We were blasted for "BEATING OUR CARS AT THE TRACK" and not being waxers. Boy have things change and now everyones an expert and a big time racer.
Funny but i guess things have changed. :blueangel:

Re: Stick or Automatic (ODennis)
Yes John, it does make a difference! Being and expert and a big time racer, I still wax my car...what I don't do is take it on the street or into shopping center parking lots...It's way to hard on the car. :D
For me the auto is much easier, the 6m is alot more fun both on and off the track. If i were setting up a car for track only it would be a auto. Just my 2 pennies
I have to agree auto's are the easer ticket for brackets. You can do well with a stick if you can fit tires that hook hard enough. But last time I checked this was still a corvette fourm and "real" corvettes;) have manual trans. Corvettes are more fun with sticks and it's fun to beat up on the "profesional" auto drivers. :blueangel: Ric
