Default Toughy Question

Ok, I'd like to get your knowledgeable opinions on a certain engine combo...namely mine :) I'm wondering if I will have an issue with IDLE and DRIVEABILTIY with the cam I'm running and a compression ratio of about 8.8:1 Note: This will be a supercharged application. My question applies to before the boost is applied. Any opinions very appreciated.

Cam is:
Intake: Duration: 209*
Exhaust: Duration: 217*
Intake: .495”
Exhaust: .515”
Lobe separation: 114*

That is a very mild cam, with those numbers PCM or ECM tuning would not be needed or if it is there would be little tuning involved. What is this going in? Street manners should be excellent. A better blower cam maybe an LPE grind their part number 74220 with the following specs:

215/220 duration .530/.530 lift with 1.6 rockers at a 114 LSA

This to is a mild cam with little ECM or PCM tuning required. I ran this cam in my supercharged 396 LT1 engine for some time and it has great street manners with good bottom end and top end power.

LPE used this same cam in some of their blown EFI small blocks and got numbers in the high 500 region depending on boost levels.

Well, the static compression is lower....about 8.8 : 1. With the high lift cam, it may affect cylinder filling? (without the supoercharger) I need a mild cam in order to pass the SMOG ***** here in California...otherwise I could go nuts with a longer cam... :yesnod:

I like the CC-305 cam for mild applications with near stock idle...however, no smog inspections here in Kansas...catalytic converter, what's that?

Ahh you live in the Republic of the Fruits and Flakes :)

OK well the forementioned cam I suggested should pass. However an alternative would be the LPE 74211 cam with 211/219 on a 114 LSA. I know that cam will pass with flying colors even where you are at. The 215 should pass with some creative PCM tuning. I am running a 224/236 high lift custom roller from Comp Cams. I can tune the PCM so that it will pass even California standards on the emissions tread mill easily here in Oregon. Given that I am about 99% one can make the 215 cam pass, the 211 would pass hands down easily.

I think 1985 emissions standards will be a little easier than '95s too.
