Wow, it sounds like I'm some sort of hardened criminal based off some of your responses... The point of the story was that the plate was there, because it was, and the trooper was looking at it the whole time. Sure, it was turned down, and 'technically' illegal, but mistakes happen and I made one.
I'm always incredibly polite to officers of the law, it's just thy way that I've been raised. It's a job like any other, but c'mon man, offer some mercy about a freaking license plate! Honestly, I'll probably just plead guilty even though I know from experience that Nassau County TVB is a joke.. I just don't have the time at all to deal with it, I have a job, and the ticket is not a moving violation aka no points.
Honestly, I was more angry that it took the **** over 30 mins to write that ticket.. Keep in mind that I was in bumper to bumper traffic when he pulled me over....
In any case, I will make sure that plate is out all the time, because you know, it could kill somebody if it isn't............
Ocean Parkway has always been strictly patroled and since they found all those hookers bodies down there the LEO's are like hornets from a disturbed nest.
If you are going to ride down there dot the I's and cross the T's when it comes to your vehicle.
Yes he should have let you go with a warning in my opinion but most NYS troopers don't care about any other law enforcement organizations cards and they will ticket you for a violation.
If it was a Nassau or Sufolk LEO he probably would have let you go.
I put the front plate on my C5 as soon as I got it because I knew it would just be a matter of time before I got a ticket especially because I ride Ocean parkway often.
As I've said before, PBA and FOP cards aren't "get out of jail free" cards. To be quite honest, I don't even think they should be legal. Because you "know" someone? Pure BS. Smacks of outright corruption.
Why should anyone get special consideration?
I disagree...have you ever read what is stated on the back of a PBA card? It clearly states the intention of the card.
That is not corruption. Its the same as having the an officer in the passenger seat telling the cop, "hey im a fellow cop too and hes a good friend or a family member of mine."
Now if the officer wants to validate that card, he can always call up the police department of the officer who issued it and confirm. All cards have to be signed by the issuing officer. I am not saying the cop has to cut him a break. The card is just informing him he is a good acquaintance of another fellow officer. What the cop chooses to do after receiving that information is his discretion.
Of course this all depends on what the infraction is. Major violations such as speeding at a 150mph throws all of that out the window.
You argue with the trooper and then proceed to demonstrate how you " cheat " to beat the system and you're dismayed as to why you were written a summons? Incredible .... PS: if you would of kept quiet you might of caught a break ... j
I know a lot of people hate front plates, but I have to say that I think the Top Flight front plate system actually IMPROVES the look of the car (not detracts).
