My "66" vette was repainted back to its original color (Ermine White) about 20 years ago.
Would the value of the car be affected if I painted the car Nassau Blue? Nassau Blue was a Corvette color in 1966.
The car has all matching numbers.
Thanks for your opinions!
It is likely to affect value. How much depends on the buyer and how close to original the rest of the car is. You say matching #'s, but what about all the small stuff? Hoses? Date coded glass? Correct hose clamps? etc etc. The closer to factory everything is, the bigger of a negative will the incorrect color be.
The value will be affected in terms of resale to a purist. By how much is debatable.
We just did a 64 coupe over that was originaly silver. However the owner realy liked Riverside Red (one of the color options in 64)and so we painted the car red. He was extatic with the results and loved the car that much more now that it was (according to him) the "right" color.
Ultimately, it is your car and you need to paint it what ever color you want to see in your garage when it is done
Make yourself happy and do not worry about what other people think...or about damaging the value. If you are worried about resale value...I would not be worried to much because there are people out there that would just die to own one...regardless of the color....as long as the paint job is done correctly. It would all depend on what "target market" you would be aiming towards when and if you ever choose to sell it. Like I tell my customers...."Life is to short to do things that other people want....do what YOU want...because "everybody" else is already taken...so be yourself".

Hi Dub:
Thanks for your thoughtful and well said response! I think that I will go with the blue repaint, there will probably be some loss in value but I never plan to sell the car.
My heirs can worry about resale!
