60 vette honduras maroon paint code??
I purchased a pint of lacquer DDL50568 PPG Honduras Maroon Poly, sprayed a test card and had that read by a color eye which gave me a conversion to PPG base/clear.
I have now sprayed a test panel and I am not sure that is correct, can not find any origional painted panels to compare my panel to.
Does anyone have a correct PPG paint code I could use or any advice for me??
The older colors (like yours...which is pre-basecoat era) are hard to find because many paint manufacturers do not want to spend the time formulating a color that is rarely needed.
As for finding a correct color to your situation. using the PPG formula...may be youor best bet. But also remember...in small volumes of paint...in this case a pint. when the paint mixer is adding teh toners....if he/she are not careful, they can alter the color by adding a few drops more of this and less of that..becasue the volume of the paint is so small...versus that of a gallon. Especially if the toner is a strong pigment.
You must also be aware that the choice of thinner/reducer for your paint and how much you thin the paint, set up your gun in regards to volume of paint and air pressure, how you apply it to the panel and allow the paint to flash your test panel can alter the color.
All I can say is that if you get your color custom tinted to your liking...just make sure that you keep some in the raw un-reduced state for "possible" future use. So you do not have to worry about doing it all over again because some paint mixer did not keep good records on how they tiinted your color. Which is really hard to do when you are using some of it to spray out test panels and check the end result.
Good luck in your paint situation.
