an aluminum flywheel will reduce rotating mass and maybe pick up a tenth (I'll have results in about 2 weeks) but the gears will pick up atleast .3 with mn6 and take some of the strain of the clutch if it's still holding up, if both are out of the question
That wouldn't be worth the labor unless i was in there already replacing the clutch. I'm sure my car would like a new slave while i was in there but all that will remain stock unless i do a clutch. You bring up a good point about less strain on the clutch didn't really think of it.

Hard to say which will pick up more. If you clutch is not slipping much, then gears will definitely help a ton. Where are you crossing the stripe? 5600 or so? I know I'm leaving a ton on the table crossing at 6100. Not only do you gain in 4th gear, you pick up RPMs in every gear.
The risky move would be gears first. Of course, if the clutch starts to go, you will not have a choice except to replace it. The safer(and probably smarter) move would be the clutch first. However, it's one of those painful mods that will not be a lot of ET for the buck. IMHO, clutch first.
I would say closer to 5400-5500 not sure off the top of my head. After hearing all these reviews i will go with a hoosier DR when i'm due for some. Smarter would be a clutch figuring that is a wear item, but i'm thinking short term. It still gets the job done so maybe i should just stay with it. I just want the ET then i'll probably sell the car. I have no idea at this point if i'm going to keep the car that long.

Thanks, good reference. That hp/trq loss doesn't mean much but i never figured in tire growth when we are talking the same size tire. Hoosier would help even more for that. Long term i could always go with a taller DR, it would be an option if i planned on going 130+. Not thinking about that right now though.

I'll let you know when that time comes. Off hand do you recall how much a set of 275/40s go for?

The gain will be minimal by replacing the clutch, but the worry factor with that part failing will be gone for a while.
Oh well i know the clutch will have to go at some point. I feel as one with it right now. I love it, but it's not a long term relationship...

Thanks Rob, was waiting for you to chime in. Less strain sounds good, i am comfortable with this clutch, so i'm going to go with it until it doesn't hold any longer. It would take quite awhile to learn a new clutch and it's sweet spot.

As Marc mentioned, I am on Hoosier 275/40/17 drag radials.
Well it's settled then, gears will be next on the list.

oh and FWIW i hit 4th at about 90-95mph so for reference it looks like im up around 60hp and carry the increased hp all the way until i cross the 1/4 mile line
PREZ06 when are you getting back to the strip?
Track opens Feb 7th weather permitting...FWIW Steve I gained ~.3 when I went to 4.10 and that was with an extra shift to 4th which you already have to make. Over a .1 of the gain was from the 60', I'm curious to see how "low" the stock clutch can go...I know it isn't a direct comparison, but I went 1.54 with a 5k rpm launch. What are you launching at now? I believe you'll see 10's with the addition of the gears!
i was asking myself this question about 2 weeks ago and decided to go with the gears.
