Brian’s car is my inspiration for the white coupe. Given it would be almost impossible from a cost and effort perspective to return it to stock and I can make it better (at least from my perspective) I feel it is a great candidate for this build. I have similar flares on the way along with a 65/66 big block hood and new rear valance panel. Black 11x18 wheels with 315/30-18 tires, black trim, coil overs all around, Wilwood big brakes w/red calipers, and a return to the black and silver interior.

As you can see, it has little that is original to ‘64.

Here is the flare Jeff builds. Yes, it is an extreme “bubble” style flare, but it respects the belt line and in my opinion is how it would have been designed if GM designed it. Of course if you install a flare like this one, you need to lower the car and inch or two and then reduce the diameter of the tire which are all in the plan (currently planned 315/30-18 is 25.5”)

I found this picture of a ‘64 coupe and what I thing is the biggest issue that turns people off to flares. This flare corrupts the whole belt line and design of the car. In my opinion, it is horrible (I apologize if this car belongs to a forum brother, it’s just my opinion!) and looks tacked on with no regard for the beautiful lines of the design.

This is the coupe I bought. Notice the classic mid-year belt line that passes unbroken just above the rear wheel. I think this is one of the most distinctive and beautiful parts of the body style.

You can see how jacked the rear valance is, but the frame and birdcage are rust free. I will clean up and treat the frame inside and out.

There are a stack of shims between the bumper and mount, yet the bottom is pressed against the valance.

I put the 15” ARs that were on the convertible on the coupe (the rear is sitting funny only because I lowered it off the jack and haven’t moved it yet.
