In the front, there is currently 2 1/2” plus the 1/2” move to the rear at ride height is 3”. I didn’t catch the opening high enough in this picture, but you can see it in the pictures from yesterday, I will need to remove just over an inch of original fender near the rocker to even out the leading edge and provide a more eye pleasing taper without going too far and exposing the rear edge of the frame. Problem solved!

I had to put the front wheels on 2x4’s in order for my engine hoist legs to roll under.

Safely away for the evening. Tomorrow it is supposed to be only in the upper 40’s and rainy. I need two hours to give the engine bay and chassis a good cleaning.

This example happens to be in my 1988 LR Defender where the fuel tank sits under the passenger seat! The corvette style filter/regulator sits on top of the frame rail and the supply/return lines are PTFE lined -6. The vent on the TANKS pickup installed in the stock tank is temporarily plugged until the vent line could be installed.

Lifted the passenger side about 6”. Plenty of room to clean and paint. I also pulled the old rusty fuel line and will run dual ss lines tomorrow. Probably one of the most difficult tasks on this project. Yes, once I jacked it up I have a back up for the back up for the back up. Can’t be too careful when your hands are in harms way!

Easy access! I’m replacing the body mounts while I’m at it. The birdcage channel is perfect.

Mirror images (almost). The tape makes it easier to match them as I bent the second line and then snake them through the car at the same time. I first tried from the rear. She didn’t like that, so I inserted it from the front and it went right in.

All in place with the body down on new mounts on the passenger side. Plenty of room! I made a stainless guard for that little bit on the outside of the frame which I’ll install later. Probably overkill, but better safe than sorry.

Still need to secure this end and make the final bends. I’ll do that after I finish lifting and painting the chassis on the driver side.

Once I jacked up the body, I inspected the brake line starting at the rear junction. I didn’t want to replace it, but found this slightly flattened area. It wasn’t horrible so I was on the fence...

...and then about 10” farther forward just below the firewall I found this. I’ll be picking up a new piece of brake line tomorrow. Flat as a pancake she is!

Probably not necessary, but it makes me feel better. This is the same mesh I’m going to use for the four vents behind the front wheels.

The frame is all cleaned, degreased and painted (I have a couple of touch up spots on each side where I jacked up the body). All that missing paint on the firewall is from the power washing. A repaint is next.
