Replacing your dome light with a brand new halogen or LED bulb can brighten your Corvette's interior. It's a quick DIY job that will make the time spent inside your car more enjoyable.

This article applies to the C5 Corvette (1997-2004), C6 Corvette (2005-2013), and C7 Corvette (2014-current).

Each time you open and close the door of your Corvette, the dome light cycles on and off. Overtime, the dome light is destined to fail, which leaves the interior of your Corvette pitch black at night. The good thing is that the dome light is very easy to replace at home. Also, there are aftermarket options to replace the regular halogen bulb with an LED bulb to brighten up the interior. The following procedure will help you replace your dome light bulb and avoid a trip to the dealership.

Materials Needed

  • Small flat head screwdriver
  • Fishing line or dental floss
  • Needle nose pliers

Step 1 – Remove the dome light cover

Using a small flat head screwdriver, pry the dome light plastic lens cover out of its plastic housing. Insert the screwdriver into the small notches of the lens cover. Gently pop the cover out of its housing to gain access to the dome light bulb.

Step 2 – Remove the dome light bulb

Gently remove the dome light bulb. If the bulb seems stuck, it may be necessary to use needle nose pliers to pull the bulb loose. If the bulb still won't come loose, use dental floss or fishing line to create a lasso around the bulb and pull the bulb out of its connector.

Warning

Be cautious not to shatter the bulb by using too much force on the glass casing.

Step 3 – Replace the dome light bulb

Once the old bulb is removed, replace it with your new halogen or LED bulb. Test the dome light to make sure that the bulb has been properly installed. If the bulb works, re-install the dome light plastic lens cover. Now, sit back and enjoy your newly brightened corvette interior!

Pro Tip

The dome light bulb is classified as a size 194 bulb. Replace the bulb with the proper size to ensure that the light is functional.
